WWE’s Big Show, Paul Wight, signs with AEW

Former WWE star The Big Show, also known as Paul Wight, has released a statement announcing he has signed with All Elite Wrestling. Wight, whose run with WWE ends after 22 years, will be both a wrestler and a commentator as AEW is getting another hour of programming.

The new hour, separate from AEW Dynamite, will be known as AEW Dark: Elevation. The specifics of Wight’s AEW deal were not disclosed but a press release stated the deal is long-term.

Wight made his final WWE appearance on the Raw “Legends Night” show on January 4, 2021. WWE and Wight were reportedly unable to come to an agreement on the financial terms of a new contract.

“It’s been amazing to watch what AEW has built in just a couple of years,” Wight said in the statement. “AEW Dark is an incredible platform to hone the skills of up-and-coming wrestlers, but I also love that established AEW talent can build out their personalities and showcase themselves in new ways on Dark. It’s no exaggeration when they say that AEW is boundless.”

AEW Dark: Elevation will air on Mondays at 7:00 PM EST on the promotion’s Youtube channel. Additional information about the show, Wight’s signing, and his commentary partner will be revealed tonight on the latest episode of Dynamite at 8:00 PM EST.
