WWE Royal Rumble 2025: Predicting Surprise Entrants

Read Time:3 Minute, 39 Second

The Road to WrestleMania begins at the 2025 Royal Rumble. Wrestling fans know, there is no better time in WWE for surprises than the Royal Rumble match itself. All of your favorite superstars get the opportunity to main event at The Grandest Stage of Them All, WrestleMania. But which surprises are we in store for?

Each time that clock appears and counts down, anticipation kicks in to see who could possibly come out. Take a look at five surprise entrants you may very well see at this year’s Royal Rumble:

The Rock

The Final Boss’ return to WWE television earlier this year has absolutely opened the door to a surprise Royal Rumble appearance. The last time we saw him speak to Cody Rhodes, The Rock made it clear that he wants the Undisputed WWE Championship. Furthermore, he went on to say that the story between him and Rhodes had only just begun. With the Road to WrestleMania starting at the Rumble, we could see the continuation of that story. Given his corporate power as Board of Director, who’s to say The Rock does not insert himself as number 30?

Alexa Bliss

Alexa Bliss has been gone since her Women’s Championship match with Bianca Belair at the 2023 Royal Rumble. She would then go on a maternity absence, so we have not seen her since. With the former champion’s contract expiring in 2023, Bliss and WWE would have to come to a new agreement before we see her step foot in the ring again. But, there is no better time for her to return at the same event that we saw her last. What better challenger for a champion at WrestleMania than the 5x Women’s Champion? Bliss’s experience at the top of the division would easily make her a favorite in the Royal Rumble match. Let’s see if Triple H can deliver on bringing back yet another fan favorite.

Joe Hendry

Say his name and he appears… Joe Hendry is not only the most popular star in TNA. He arguably became the most popular star in NXT during his stint with the company. A return at the 2025 Royal Rumble could be the most crowd popping moment of the night. With fans eager to see more of Hendry on the big stage, what better way than to introduce him in the Royal Rumble? Whether it’s just an appearance or an official debut, Hendry is destined to show his face on the main roster soon. His iconic song and walk to the ring is best suited for a match that emphasizes entrances like this one.

Matt Cardona

The King of the Indies has made quite a name for himself since his WWE release in 2020. Zack Ryder had to leave WWE to establish himself like he has today. Even if he does not become a main event player, the mid card ranks can really use someone like Matt. With the Royal Rumble taking place in Indianapolis, Cardona sent out a tweet in June saying, “Maybe it’s time for the INDY GOD to come home”. Was this just a teaser? Or a sign of things to come? Either way, it would make perfect sense for the former Intercontinental Champion to make his return. Especially when you consider the success that his wife, Chelsea Green, is having after becoming the first ever Women’s United States Champion.

Ricky Starks

This may be a long shot when you consider that AEW recently enacted the 1-year option in his contract, extending it to Spring 2025. But regardless, this name was inevitable due to the apparent and ongoing mutual interest between WWE and Ricky Starks. If you saw his recent interview with Chris Van Vliet, then you saw these rumors have some validity to them, from Ricky’s end. It’s clear that he is unhappy in AEW and wants to go join some of his buddies in WWE. Being close friends to the WWE Champion, Cody Rhodes, may have some impact on him joining the company. Similar to Cardona, Starks could play a big-time role in the mid card scene. He is easily one of the most underutilized talents outside of the WWE who just needs a chance.
