WWE NXT Results & Recap: April 10, 2019

Read Time:3 Minute, 39 Second

On the heels of a fantastic NXT TakeOver, this week’s episode of NXT showed highlights from each match at TakeOver. There were only three matches on this show and they were basically dark matches from TakeOver, so there was no real main event talent on the show.

Below are the WWE NXT results.

Candice LeRae def. Aliyah.

We kicked off the wrestling of the show with Mrs. Johnny Wrestling vs Aliyah, who was accompanied by her tag team partner Vanessa Borne. It was nice to see Candice have a match here. I feel like during her NXT run thus far, she has been shown more as Johnny’s wife as opposed to one of the best wrestlers on the planet. Aliyah had a good showing here early on, with some smooth chain wrestling type action, and did a good job getting heat from the crowd. It was a relatively short match, however, even after Candice was distracted by Borne, she picked up the win.

I really hope this is the start of Candice getting some kind of push in NXT, because she is genuinely one of the best women’s wrestlers out there. Aliyah showed promise in this match, she’s so young and still has so much time to improve, I think she has a bright future in NXT. A short match but a fine one, and the right person won.

Jaxson Ryker def. Danny Burch.

Then in our second of three matches tonight, we had Forgotten Sons member Jaxson Ryker vs Danny Burch. This match went as you would imagine it would, with both men essentially brawling throughout the match. Burch came out strong against Ryker and really brought the action to him early in the match. Once Burch started to get some offense, Forgotten Sons tried to get involved, Burch took care of them but as a result took his eyes off the prize. Burch taking care of Blake and Cutler gave Ryker a chance to recover and hit a Widowmaker off the distraction to pin Burch for the win.

After the match all three members of the group attacked a beaten Burch. Lorcan came in to save his partner and while he fended them off for a couple minutes, the numbers game was too much. Forgotten Sons beat up both Burch and Lorcan and stood tall to end this segment. I’m not the biggest fan of Forgotten Sons, but I do appreciate how strong they are being booked, and this was a fun little match. I do however, really enjoy Burch and Lorcan as a team and I really hope NXT gives them some level of a push in the very near future.

Street Profits def. Fabian Aichner & Marcel Barthel.

Then in our main event of this week’s edition of my favourite hour on television, we had the always exciting Street Profits vs Fabian Aichner & Marcel Barthel. This was the best match of the night by far, and I really enjoyed this one these two teams seemed to have some decent chemistry. Aichner and Barthel came out strong early and the action kicked off immediately with Aichner hitting a brainbuster on Montez Ford. Then Dawkins hit a tope suicide (suicide dive) and Aichner hitting a beautiful double-springboard moonsault. They kept that pace going on all throughout the match and while it wasn’t the longest match it was extremely fun to watch. The match came to an end when Dawkins picked up Barthel and Ford came off the top rope with a Blockbuster to get a pin.

Very fun match between these two teams, with a consistent and exciting pace from bell-to-bell. Street Profits have been criminally under-used lately, and as I said earlier with Candice, I hope this is the start of some kind of push for them. They are an extremely exciting team to watch and are very charismatic as a duo, hopefully they start being used on NXT TV more.

Due to NXT being an hour long, it never drags and while I could’ve done without highlights of matches I watched not even a week ago, it was fine. Velveteen Dream vs Buddy Murphy was also announced for next week and honestly that could be a Match of the Year contender.
