Season 1, Episode 7: ‘Toughness and Grit’
The seventh episode, Toughness and Grit, aired on March 30, 2025, at 8:00 PM ET on A&E. The episode kicks off with the Future Greats meeting World Heavyweight Champion Gunther. He puts them through a tough reality check, grilling each contestant in a way they didn’t expect. Gunther is the epitome of toughness and grit—he is wrestling. He made it clear that he was strictly business.
Afterward, Gunther and the Legends set the matches for the episode. We then cut to Dani Sekelsky receiving treatment for her back pain. Her injury is worsening, but despite that, she’s determined to step into the ring. Next, we see the Legends speaking with their Future Greats before the matches. They emphasize the importance of showing intensity, wanting the bouts to feel like real back-and-forth fights.
Tyra Mae Steele delivered an intense, standout promo after her match, expressing how she felt when Bubba Ray told her she smiled too much and wasn’t serious. This week, Gunther was tasked with awarding the points. He gives a point to Zena Sterling, marking the first point for Team Bubba. Gunther also awards a point to Shiloh Hill, despite him fulfilling the full obligations. However, he purposefully withholds a point from Jasper Troy, knowing how much it affects him.
The episode concludes with Bubba Ray shaking Zena’s hand, telling her she earned it—unlike BJ Ray. Mickie James felt she needs to light a fire under her team moving forward. Booker T believes she needs to play a little dirtier. Meanwhile, Undertaker is frustrated, despite his team being in the lead. He doesn’t want there to be any doubt when his team wins and earns points.
The point breakdown is now as follows:
- Team Booker: 4 Points
- Team Mickie: 2 Points
- Team Undertaker: 5 Points
- Team Bubba Ray: 1 Point
The Matches on Episode 7
Troy Yearwood vs. Shiloh Hill
Troy Yearwood and Shiloh Hill lock up immediately, with Troy playing the babyface and Shiloh the heel. Mickie James urges Troy to show more intensity, and as he does, Shiloh takes a rough bump to his shoulder. Shiloh brings his signature aggression, focusing on a devastating heart punch he refined with The Undertaker—leaving visible handprints on Troy’s body. Troy fires back with a series of sharp chops, building momentum. Just as it seems he’s turning the tide, Shiloh counters and lands his finisher for the win.
When giving feedback, Mickie James felt the match lacked emotion and that Troy was missing intensity. Shiloh showed the battle wounds on his red back. Booker T noted that Troy still has a lot of work to do. Bubba Ray got fired up, urging them to get angry. Finally, Gunther weighed in, praising the physicality and effort on display.
Tyra Mae Steele vs. Zena Sterling
Tyra Mae Steele played the heel, aiming to showcase a cockier side. Zena Sterling portrayed the babyface, struggling against the power of TMS. As the match progressed, Zena started to find her rhythm, outwrestling the Olympic gold medalist. However, it didn’t take long for Tyra to regain control. Bubba Ray and The Undertaker both agreed that TMS has a natural heel presence but isn’t quite sure how to fully express it yet. Mickie James wants her to lean into her background but also find the sports entertainment aspect of her character.
Zena fought back, showing resilience. Bubba gave Gunther credit for showcasing the art of the struggle, but that aspect wasn’t highlighted in the match. In the end, Tyra secured a clean win and celebrated afterward, which didn’t sit well with Bubba, who took issue with her staring at him.
When giving feedback, Bubba noted that Zena showed a new sense of urgency. Booker T praised her for displaying more than she had in previous competitions. Mickie liked seeing Zena’s new side but was critical of her lingerie-style ring gear, emphasizing the importance of fighting for women not to have to wear lingerie in the ring.
The Undertaker felt Tyra Mae Steele didn’t fully answer the call. He believes she needs to set herself apart more and apply the skills she’s spent her whole life learning to pro wrestling. Gunther agreed, saying that while Tyra showed attitude at the beginning and end of the match, she needs to be more aggressive and dominant to force Zena to step up. Both Gunther and Booker T felt they wouldn’t have known Tyra was an Olympian based on what she showcased in the match. Mickie, however, believed Tyra’s presence alone could make her a heel.
Cutler James vs. Jasper Troy
The Future Greats felt Cutler James hadn’t fully capitalized on the opportunity of replacing BJ Ray yet, and if there was ever a day to prove himself, today was it. The match began as a back-and-forth contest, with the action spilling outside the ring at one point. However, Gunther didn’t particularly approve of that. Once back inside, Jasper Troy took control, working as the heel. Gunther felt Jasper was missing crucial little details that could make a significant difference.
Bubba Ray acknowledged that Cutler was making progress but still needed improvement. Gunther, however, wasn’t impressed and felt Cutler was too nice. In the end, Cutler managed to secure the win.
When giving feedback, Booker T praised the match as the hardest-hitting one they’d seen so far, giving it a B grade. Mickie James agreed, noting how hard both competitors worked and kicked each other’s ass. Gunther felt that Jasper wore his emotions on his face too much and wanted him to control that. Bubba Ray gave Cutler a pep talk, explaining why he picked him and emphasizing that he wanted to see more of a badass. The Undertaker felt that the assignment was understood.
Bayley Humphrey vs. Leigh Laurel
Bayley Humphrey played the heel, while Leigh Laurel portrayed the intimidated babyface. She aimed to showcase the small details, focusing on her facial expressions, power, and intensity. She dominated Leigh for much of the match, keeping her on the defensive and preventing any momentum. Gunther felt Bayley could do even more with her size.
Booker T and Mickie James agreed that Leigh was working with what she had. But, even though she wasn’t looking bad, she was still struggling. As expected, Bayley crushed Leigh’s skull for the win in dominant fashion. Gunther praised Bayley, saying she was the best he had seen and that the match was impressive for her second outing.
Undertaker was very pleased with Bayley’s progress. Gunther appreciated the simplicity of the match, noting that it had an easy-to-follow story. Bubba Ray urged Bayley to fully command her athletic ability in the ring. Mickie and the Future Greats felt that Bayley’s athletic background was influencing her wrestling style too much, as she seemed hesitant to hurt anyone, and it was noticeable.
Be sure to tune in every Sunday at 8:00 PM ET on A&E to see the next generation of WWE superstars in action.
