The Matches on Episode 10

Tyra Mae Steele vs. Leigh Laurel

This time around, Leigh Laurel played the babyface, as Booker T wanted to see something different from her. Tyra came out dominant and stayed in control, while Laurel struggled to find her footing. The Legends watching were not very impressed. The unexpected moment of the match came when the turnbuckle came loose—the wrestlers didn’t realize it at first and had to adapt on the fly. Tyra threw Leigh into the ropes, and they managed to play it off well. Tyra used the situation to her advantage, but after a roll-up, Leigh fought her way back, building some momentum. Ultimately, Tyra picked up the win via submission.

After the match, the Legends agreed the two handled the broken rope situation well, but overall, the match wasn’t good. They felt both wrestlers still needed a lot of work. Bubba caught Tyra rolling her eyes at him and immediately called her out. Undertaker also weighed in, saying he felt TMS is taking steps backward instead of forward.

Drake Morreaux vs. Troy Yearwood

The match was back-and-forth for the most part until Drake took control for a stretch. Their unexpected challenge came when their match, originally planned for four minutes, was suddenly extended by three more minutes. Forced to improvise, Troy Yearwood gained momentum, leading to more back-and-forth action. Ultimately, Drake secured the win after hitting his finisher.

After the match, the Legends agreed they survived the task and handled the situation. But, they felt the match overall wasn’t great. They were especially critical of Troy’s punches, noting he missed a few during the match. Undertaker also pointed out that for a big man, Drake’s moves looked small—and emphasized that he needs to better use his size to his advantage.

Shiloh Hill & Zena Sterling vs. Chris Island & Penina Tuilaepa

The ladies kicked off the match with an excellent start. Zena Sterling is clearly coming into her own, while Penina Tuilaepa tried to use her power to take control, eventually countering Zena’s early headlock. Their unexpected challenge came when the lights started flickering and nearly went out. The Future Greats handled it well, ignoring the distraction and continuing with the match. Penina looked great, thanks in part to Zena, who made her shine. Penina’s strength was on full display, and their chemistry was noticeable.

Penina eventually tagged in Chris Island, who played a game of human chess in the ring with Shiloh Hill. As the guys traded hard-hitting slams, the lights completely went out. After the commercial break, we saw Zena accidentally clothesline Chris Island in the corner. Even as the lights went out again during the women’s portion, they continued wrestling in the dark. Surprisingly, the blackout added a unique character to the match, making Penina look even stronger.

When the guys tagged back in, Shiloh started to take control. With the lights still out, it became difficult to track legal tags, causing some confusion. Zena managed to land a big slam… But, it was barely visible and only resulted in a two-count before Chris broke it up. Shiloh then took Chris out of the match, but P-Nasty took advantage, hitting Zena in the back of the head. She followed up with her finisher and pinned Zena for the win.

After the match, Bubba praised everyone for doing an amazing job. Undertaker noted it was Penina’s best night—even if it happened in the dark. All of the Legends agreed that everyone stepped up and took a real step forward in their progression. Booker also pointed out that Zena helped put Penina over, something he had been waiting to see.

BJ Ray vs. Cutler James

In their first match at the start of the show, Cutler James’ size advantage was immediately noticeable. BJ tried to incorporate collegiate wrestling and MMA techniques into his moveset, but they didn’t land as effectively as intended. Cutler dominated most of the match, though BJ had his moments. Ultimately, BJ made Cutler tap out in a flat finish.

After the match, Cutler commented on being out of shape, huffing and puffing heavily. BJ also felt that Cutler was stiff during the match. To his credit, Cutler was self-aware about his performance. Bubba Ray ripped into both of them afterward for having a terrible match, telling them they would have to do it again… But next time, one of them would end up staying in the competition, and the other would go home.

Their second match came after the point-based bouts. Cutler decided to play BJ’s game, leaning into his collegiate wrestling experience, given his previous wins over BJ during their time at Duke University. BJ Ray then took control, with both men looking much smoother than in their first encounter. As Cutler went for a spear, BJ reversed it into a guillotine, executed smoothly. However, backstage, Booker felt Bubba should get rid of both men. BJ continued to dominate Cutler on the ground for a bit too long. But, Cutler reversed the tide and started to build momentum with the crowd. Ultimately, BJ managed to pin Cutler in a strange, anticlimactic finish. The Legends were underwhelmed, expecting much more from BJ, especially considering how much he talks.

After the Legends gave their feedback, Bubba tore into the boys once more, ultimately eliminating Cutler James from the competition and keeping BJ Ray.
