Aaron Pico is the most exciting prospect in MMA
Rising star Aaron Pico (5-3) got back in the win column at Bellator 238 this past weekend. The 23-year-old scored a second-round highlight reel knockout win over Daniel Carey. With this emphatic win, Pico snapped a two-fight losing streak and once again proved himself to be the most exciting prospect in the sport.
Whilst you may find unbeaten young fighters competing well against bigger and better guys no-one is doing it quite like Pico. Here’s why he’s the most exciting prospect in the game.
World Class Credentials
The American has a stellar background outside of the sport. In wrestling, he was a junior world champion and competing at a seriously high level. Plenty of MMA fighters have more impressive wrestling credentials so why is Pico so special? It’s the fact he was a champion in two sports before crossing over into MMA. As well as being a wrestling champion, he also competed in boxing and exceptionally well. Prior to wrestling, Pico was a Golden Gloves champion, earning a ton of awards and accolades. Trained by Freddie Roach, he has carried his high-level boxing skills into MMA.
Popularity & Divisiveness
Due to his background, Pico has entered the sport with a ton of pressure on his back. Everyone expects him to go on and become a champion. Anything less than that will be seen as failure to deliver on his potential. So, as you can imagine, every time he fights he brings a ton of attention with him. As with any popular fighter, you have some division. Many are rooting for him to reach the top, others are cheering at his defeats. Either way, having so much attention this early in your career is a strange thing for a fighter. It only gets bigger every time he competes, adding to the excitement of the occasion.
Fighting Style
More than anything else, it is Pico’s fighting style that separates him from other exciting prospects. A combination of immense ability and a lack of octagon IQ make for an exciting watch every time. The Jackson-Wink fighter appears to have a kill or be killed mentality when he steps into the cage. This is evident given the fact all of his fights win or lose have ended by stoppage. You never really know what’s going to happen in an Aaron Pico fight. Will his raw talent get him the win or will he be caught cold? This question, and many more, surrounding the highly touted prospect will continue to be asked until his career is done. MMA fans should just sit back and enjoy the ride, as this train has only just left the station.
