Wednesday Night Wars: AEW Dynamite Week 16 Review
This week’s episode of AEW Dynamite was celebrated in the Wasco Center in Miami, Florida.
The show, in a similar fashion to other arenas, had a great crowd and only had one negative aspect. That being the Nightmare Collective vs. Hikaru Shida and Kris Statlander match.
Matches & Segments
The show started really hot with a four-way tag team match between The Young Bucks vs. Kenny Omega and “Hangman” Adam Page vs. Santana and Ortiz vs. Best Friends. This was an early contender for best TV match of 2020. Omega and Page were victorious and next week they will face SCU for the AEW tag team championships.
Cody had a great babyface promo and accepted MJF’s stipulations. The next few weeks of AEW it will be focused around Cody and this stipulation.
Joey Janela made a short but good backstage promo acknowledging his 2019 and his ongoing feud with Penelope Ford and Kip Sabian.
The lowest point of the show was Nightmare Collective vs. Shida and Statlander. The crowd was quiet during most of the match and the ring action was not that interesting to watch. AEW needs to pivot from the Nightmare Collective.
Jon Moxley defeated Sammy Guevara in an entertaining match. After the match ended, The Inner Circle appeared and attacked Moxley for his actions from last week. This post-match beatdown was really good.
Chris Jericho backstage had a promo addressing his actions and we saw a little of the other members of The Inner Circle members playing around and mocking Moxley.
MJF, Blade, and Butcher defeated DDP, QT Marshall, and Dustin Rhodes. This match was awesome, everyone had their moment to shine. MJF during this match controlled the crowd so well. During the match, DDP was awesome and was a highlight.
The main event of the show was Pac defeating Darby Allin in another awesome AEW Dynamite main event match. Both men during this match played their roles so well. After the match, Moxley came out of in ambulance and made a short promo telling the fans and Pac that he is going to win next week’s match against Pac for the No. 1 contendership of the AEW championship.
Rating
This episode was really fun to watch from start to finish. The only negative was the Nightmare Collective. The match of the night was the four-way tag team match.
Rating: B
