VIDEO: Tyson Chartier chats Kattar, Green & Rohskopf controversy
TopGame management owner Tyson Chartier joins Between Rounds Radio again as he readies for two mixed martial artists he represents to climb back into the octagon.
Maurice Green (8-4) will compete this weekend at the UFC Apex when he meets Gian Villante (17-11) in a heavyweight matchup and featherweight star on the rise Calvin Kattar (21-4) will headline the July 15th card when he faces off against Dan Ige (14-2) on Yas Island.
Chartier is excited for Green’s next fight, but won’t be making the trip to Vegas to corner the heavyweight fighter. This is partly due to Green’s new transition to a new camp in JacksonWink and partly because he will be traveling to Vegas and Yas Island soon to corner Kattar. Chartier explained his excitement for this fight. “Villante is always in exciting fights, the are slugfests and the fans love it. I think it’s a good opportunity for Maurice to welcome him to the heavyweight division and kind of put a stamp on it that Maurice is here to stay”.
As far as Green’s transition to the popular New Mexico based gym, Tyson feels the future is bright for the former TUF star. “Maurice has never really had a ton of heavyweights to train with. When he was in Minnesota training with Brock he didn’t really have heavyweights to move around with but he was still learning and we got him to (3-0) training there. He went out to Factory X for a while and built some structure there, but he was always lacking the heavyweight training partners. Thats the blessing he is gonna have at Jackson’s is that he will be training with all these other heavyweights that are on a very high level”.
Tyson also added some new additions to the TopGame roster in regional fighters Connor Barry and Eddy George. Tyson is very excited about the signings of both men and made it clear that both guys will represent the TopGame brand with class.
Chartier will be intently watching Green’s fight from home this weekend, but turns his full attention to Calvin’s matchup with Ige in mid-July. Calvin will go into this fight as a huge favorite, but Tyson is still expecting a tough fist fight.
“There is a lot of people who would be too scared to take this fight. They’re gonna say there is no upside and it’s a huge risk. But that’s what the Cartel is all about. We will always double down on ourselves. We are here to fight, we are not here to wait,” said Chartier. “We have every advantage in this fight, now it is time for Calvin to just go in there and perform”.
