VIDEO: Anthony Romero envisions submission win en route to UFC contract
Undefeated Canadian prospect Anthony “The Genius” Romero (7-0) will finally get his shot at a UFC contract when he meets Mike Breeden on August 25th for Dana White’s Contender Series.
Romero discussed the excitement in getting the call from his Dodge Sports management team after having to pass on a Contender Series fight last season due to his contractual obligations with King Of The Cage. “I’m really excited I knew it was gonna happen no matter what, there was a little road block but it’s no big deal everything happens for a reason and I am excited to show my skill on August 25th”.
His last victory was a round 1 finish over Jacob Miller. We asked Romero if he felt extra pressure to win after already being on the UFC radar. “I think there is always pressure when there is an undefeated fighter, he is always trying to win, so to me it’s normal its nothing different. And there is that saying ‘pressure makes diamonds’. It’s no big deal, I’m ready to show off my skills and everything is the same”.
The big night is a month and a half a way and Romero is eagerly anticipating a victory and making his dreams a reality. We asked him if he expects this night to be a little different due to the fact the pandemic is preventing the UFC from allowing fans in the stands. “I am good with it, I have had fights where I wasn’t able to hear my coaches at all, it’s just pure reaction. All you hear is the fans screaming for me or my opponent so it will be nice, it will probably relax me a lot more cause I’ll be able to hear my coaches voice”.
Romero told us his official prediction: “I see a submission for sure, I’d say second or third round. The first round I’m sure we will try and feel one another out but if not, if he wants to blow the tank first round we will do that as well. But if not, I’m a smart fighter and I know what I am doing”.
