Vadim Nemkov & Julius Anglickas discuss Bellator 268 championship bout
Bellator 268 transpires from Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona on Saturday, October 16th. The broadcast goes down on Showtime featuring both semi-final bouts in the light heavyweight grand prix, a possible lightweight title eliminator bout, and more.
Vadim Nemkov & Julius Anglickas
I spoke with both of the event headliners, Vadim Nemkov and Julius Anglickas ahead of this light heavyweight title clash. The champion and challenger, respectively, spoke with me at media day and the transcription of our interactions is below.
Vadim Nemkov
If the training vibe has been different with Team Fedor ahead of Fedor’s competitive return:
“We had a full, great fighting camp. We have five guys fighting next weekend in Russia. We’ve already had great sparring partners. I think we are all going to win on all our cards.”
If winning this grand prix title could present more value than his currently held divisional title:
“Yeah, I defend every fight. I defend my title. It would be very important to win this Grand Prix for me. There’s a lot of high-quality fighters in this Grand Prix. So winning the Grand Prix and staying the champion would mean a lot to me.”
Julius Anglickas
Being no stranger to championship distinctions (the LFA Light Heavyweight title) and where the Bellator Light Heavyweight Championship would rank for him in terms of career achievements:
“Well for now it’s gonna be the number one thing in all the achievements. Each thing when you move up each time. The next thing that’s higher, that’s happening right now. So I mean at one point the LFA belt, that was like the biggest thing. Then fighting for the Contender Series, that was also a big thing. Signing for Bellator that was like, wow. Now my career has definitely gone somewhere. I found a home. And now just fighting for a title.”
“Now you’re trying to be the top dog of that new home. This is definitely the biggest achievement for me. Just to fight for the title. Now of course, I want to win it as well. So I’m gonna go full after it and definitely want to grab it. Because if not, it is what it is. It’s still a win-win for me. But now I definitely feel it. I want it, I can taste it, and just feel that it’s so close. So I just got to go and get it.”
