Underrated fights to watch at UFC 272

Read Time:1 Minute, 33 Second

The time has come for best friends turned rivals to get locked into the Octagon. At UFC 272, Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal will be one of the few fights in UFC history to headline a PPV without a championship belt on the line.

Other fights joining Covington vs. Masvidal on the main card are Rafael Dos Anjos vs. Renato Moicano, Edson Barboza vs. Bryce Mitchell, Kevin Holland vs. Alex Oliveira, and Serghei Spivac vs. Greg Hardy. With twelve fights in total, several matchups tend to get overlooked because of the main card. Therefore, here are two underrated UFC 272 fights you don’t wanna miss.

Umar Nurmagomedov vs. Brian Kelleher

The story of this matchup thus far has been a gritty veteran getting underestimated against a Russian future title contender. It’s hard to argue against Nurmagomedov’s -800 betting odds because of his background. Nurmagomedov is 13-0, cousins with Khabib, and only 26 years old. With that said, Kelleher has 36 pro fights under his belt and always gives his opponent a tough fight.

Do not sleep on this matchup because this could be the first time Nurmagomedov gets tested and maybe even upset.

Ludovit Klein vs. Devonte Smith

Ludovit Klein vs. Devonte Smith has somehow gone criminally underrated. Klein joined the UFC in September 2020 and made an instant impact in his UFC debut with a first-round head kick KO against Shane Young. Since then, Klein lost his last two fights, and the hype died down. Meanwhile, Smith won his contract on the Contender Series by first-round KO and scored two more to start his UFC career. After winning his first two UFC fights, Smith lost two of his next three.

Both fighters have tremendous finishing ability and need a win to get back on track. Don’t blink because this fight probably won’t be going the distance.
