Top 5 Current WWE Commentators

Read Time:4 Minute, 1 Second

WWE’s commentary teams have changed often over the years, and there are many talented commentators in WWE today. But, who’s the best in the company right now?

This list breaks down WWE’s Top 5 Current Commentators.

????: The Sun

#5. Michael Cole

Michael Cole starts out this list, and honestly I almost put him higher.

Cole is extremely underrated and under appreciated. Whether you like him or not, he is extremely important to the WWE commentary team. He is a veteran, being with WWE since 1997 and keeps the entire commentary part of WWE running smooth. He does get repetitive at times, which is why he’s lower on the list. However, I don’t think it’s his fault, when he is in a setting where (presumably) Vince isn’t barking in his ear, he is amazing.

Watch the first UK Championship Tournament, or Beast in the East, when he is left to his own talents- he is amazing.

????: Sportster

#4. Corey Graves

Corey Graves is a controversial one.

During his stretch on Raw and SmackDown, he carried the main roster product in terms of commentary. Many people are annoyed by Corey and his interaction with the other commentators, however many commentators in recent memory don’t have personality. They do their thing, say what they need to say, and do it again next week. But however you feel about Corey, you can not deny he incorporates personality.

Commentary is important to me, and I would rather somebody like Graves with personality as opposed to someone that is bland. You can tell when commentators are saying what they’re being told to say, and I don’t get that with Corey.

I love the amount of personality he adds to commentary every week, and I think he keeps things fresh.

????: Wrestling Observer

#3. Beth Phoenix

When Beth was added to the NXT commentary team, I didn’t think I would put her this high on the list. Needless to say, I have been pleasantly surprised.

Beth contributes enough every week without being annoying or taking away from the action. When you have Mauro, who is so loud and passionate, it’s nice to have a calmer personality like Beth. Not sure how she would do if she was put on main roster for instance, but she fits so well in NXT. Beth provides in-ring experience to her commentary much like Nigel McGuinness.

When something happens in the ring and Mauro can go to Beth and ask about a certain bump that was taken, it adds authenticity to the commentary.

????: David Gunn

#2. Nigel McGuinness

Much like Beth, I did not know what to expect out of Nigel. Nigel is a former wrestler, but that does not always mean good commentary.

Nigel is a heel commentator, but he is a realistic heel commentator. He praises the babyface wrestlers, which makes the heels look even better when they get the win. It’s little things like that, which put him on another level. It’s him and Mauro, and then everybody else. WWE did a documentary on him a while ago, and they showed him going to every superstar talking about the match and the finish. He seems to have such an attention to detail and it really shines through in his commentary.

He has been in wrestling so long that he can provide so much to matches. Beth provides in-ring experience, but Nigel is an absolute legend. As unfortunate the end of his wrestling career was, I think he was made for this role.

????: Sports Illustrated

#1. Mauro Ranallo

Where do I even start with Mauro? Not only does he have personality, he also has passion.

Passion from a commentator adds legitimacy. If the commentators don’t sound passionate and excited, why should the fans? More than anything, Mauro’s level of passion puts him at #1 on this list. He makes you care, and adds a lot of hype to big spots. I feel like Mauro being the best commentator in WWE is a bit of a consensus, so I don’t need to explain it as much.

If you want to know why Mauro is at the top of this list, watch any TakeOver he’s commentated on. The pop culture references can be a bit over the top, but he is so damn good at what he does.
