The Rocco & Ryan MMA Show: Rocco Martin recaps UFC 250, discusses future
On the 5th episode of “The Rocco & Ryan MMA Show” the guys recap UFC 250 and Martin’s controversial decision loss to Neil Magny last Saturday night in Las Vegas.
According to many MMA journalists and fans, the unanimous decision win for Magny was one that left many scratching their heads. Clearly, Magny won the third round decisively. Some might even feel the volume of Magny’s attack was worthy of a 10-8 round. But the first two rounds were much more closely contested by these two elite welterweights.
Martin had a significant edge in control time throughout the fight, (4:44 to 2:19), but lost on total and significant strikes, partly due to a dominant third round for Magny.
Rocco explained his thoughts now that he has had a few days to process the most important fight of his career. “It sucks when you feel like you didn’t fight to your potential, but you still did enough to win. Then to feel like the judges took it from you especially two (30-27) rounds, I don’t know how fights are judged anymore but that seems like a blatant robbery in itself there,” said Martin. “Some people posted imagine if I dominated a third round, if I would have dominated the third round I still would have lost the fight. I would have lost by split decision, and it would have been one of the biggest robberies of all-time. I do think that I did enough to win, even right after the fight was scored, Neil turned around and walked right up to me and said that was bull*%it, you won the fight, so that in itself shows Neil’s character and I won the fight”.
Martin is in a positive frame of mind and expects the UFC to resign him to a new contract now that his previous contract has run its course. Rocco has to wait at least thirty days before he can fight again due to his medical suspension, but that isn’t stopping the American Top Team Atlanta standout from discussing who he wants next.
“It depends on the health of Niko Price, but right now me and Niko are on the same spot right outside of the top 15, so I think that is the fight to make and I also think it’s an exciting fight and it will be exciting for the fans. I think that’s the fight to make”.
