‘The Bad Guy’ retires inside Madison Square Garden at Bellator 222

Read Time:1 Minute, 8 Second

In the co-main event at Bellator 222 in New York, Chael Sonnen faced off against Lyoto Machida.

Sonnen took a big knee to the body early in the first and while he survived the round, he would get finished in round 2 via TKO. Following the fight, Chael signaled to Big John that he wanted to speak after Machida’s post-fight interview.

“The Bad Guy”l took the mic and addressed the crowd in good spirits, “I had a hell of a lot of fun. I had a good run. I’m walking out. I appreciate the memories.” Placing his gloves in the canvas, Sonnen left the cage for the last time as a professional mixed martial artist.

Sonnen is a former UFC contender known for his trash talk and fight antics. He is most known for fighting some of the sport’s best, Anderson SIlva, Jon Jones, Fedor Emelianenko, to name a few. Chael walks away from the sport with a professional record of 31 wins and 17 losses.

The Scrap wishes Chael Sonnen nothing but the best in his well-deserved retirement.
