Steven Borden & Sting’s Shadow
Fightful recently reported that Steven Borden, the second son of legendary wrestler Sting, is now training to be a professional wrestler following the AEW Revolution PPV. This news spread like wild fire by wrestling fans. Borden, or like most fans will call him, El Hijo de Sting is training with Darby Allin.
El Hijo de Sting surprised many when he appeared on Revolution with the Sting Wolfpac look. He is pretty much a clone of his father… Steven had a few spots in Sting’s retirement match with his brother and both were praised by fans. If you were combing through social media that night, there were plenty of tweets telling them to join the business full-time.
It Won’t Be Easy
The world of professional wrestling is not easy to navigate, especially for second generation wrestlers. It’s even harder for those who had parents with tremendous legacies like Sting. With some second (and third) generation wrestlers making the mistake of not embracing their lineage, this is something Steven Borden should consider. He needs to embrace it, but also make it his own. Training with Darby Allin and taking everything one step at the time will be key for his early success. He should look no further than Cody Rhodes as an example of someone to emulate.
Steven was blessed by having the genetics of his father, he pretty much looks just like him… So he already has the look of a star. However, working on his in-ring work and cutting promos will be important. So far, we don’t know if he is signed with AEW or if he plans to wrestle in the Indies. But, any path he chooses will be a difficult one.
It’s too early to tell what Steven Borden will bring to the table as a wrestler, or what his long term plans are. He may have a long way to go, but the sky is certainly the limit for him. And how knows, maybe in a few years he could be a world champion just like his father was.
