Nick Maximov wants UFC call after he gets ‘quick win’ at LFA 88

Read Time:2 Minute, 32 Second

Nick Maximov (4-0) will make his LFA debut this Friday when he meets Tresean Gore (2-0) in a light heavyweight bout at LFA 88 going down in South Dakota on UFC Fight Pass.

The Nick Diaz Academy standout has been staying active as of late, competing for Submission Underground (SUG), and picking up back to back wins at SUG 14 and SUG 16. Maximov will compete again for SUG the weekend after he fights for LFA. Staying active is exactly what the California native wants.

β€œIt’s good to stay active I like doing stuff,” Maximov told The Scrap, “I hate just sitting around not doing anything all day so being active traveling around and getting my name out there is a great way to go about it right now.”

Maximov discussed his next opponent and broke down the fight from his point of view. β€œHe looks like he is a fast, probably powerful, striker. It will be a good fight. I think he looks like he’s not too bad. He hasn’t fought in a few years, he’s a little bit smaller than me. It will be interesting I just don’t think people understand how well I mix up my boxing, kickboxing, wrestling, and BJJ.

“I just don’t think people understand that I am leaps and bounds way better than everyone when it comes to grappling especially at the upper weights,” Maximov continued, “I don’t think they’ll understand the pressure that I put on him especially when I wrestle. I know he throws a lot of kicks and you gotta be careful with that, it’s easy to take people down when they throw a lot of kicks.”

Maximov continued to explain his gameplan and why he feels so confident leading into this fight. β€œThere are little things that I see where I see a lot of openings so it will be cool. I’m just gonna try and make it quick, I’m not gonna lie. I have a Submission Underground next weekend so I gotta get in and get out.”

Maximov expressed just how excited he is to compete for LFA and what a win might mean for his exciting MMA career moving forward. β€œVery excited, man. I think if I win this fight I think this is it, I really do. I think this will get me to the big show. Just playing it by ear right now, but it would be nice.”

If Maximov picks up a win on Friday, a logical next step might be Dana White’s Contender Series. I asked Nick his thoughts on that as a possibility.

β€œIf we have to, we have to,” he said, “I just don’t know when it ends, I don’t know much about it. I don’t know how much longer there is left of it otherwise I’d do it in a heartbeat. I’m just gonna keep staying in shape and if I get the call I get the call.”
