Nick Maximov wants UFC call after he gets ‘quick win’ at LFA 88
Nick Maximov (4-0) will make his LFA debut this Friday when he meets Tresean Gore (2-0) in a light heavyweight bout at LFA 88 going down in South Dakota on UFC Fight Pass.
The Nick Diaz Academy standout has been staying active as of late, competing for Submission Underground (SUG), and picking up back to back wins at SUG 14 and SUG 16. Maximov will compete again for SUG the weekend after he fights for LFA. Staying active is exactly what the California native wants.
βItβs good to stay active I like doing stuff,” Maximov told The Scrap, “I hate just sitting around not doing anything all day so being active traveling around and getting my name out there is a great way to go about it right now.β
Maximov discussed his next opponent and broke down the fight from his point of view. βHe looks like he is a fast, probably powerful, striker. It will be a good fight. I think he looks like heβs not too bad. He hasnβt fought in a few years, heβs a little bit smaller than me. It will be interesting I just donβt think people understand how well I mix up my boxing, kickboxing, wrestling, and BJJ.
“I just donβt think people understand that I am leaps and bounds way better than everyone when it comes to grappling especially at the upper weights,” Maximov continued, “I donβt think theyβll understand the pressure that I put on him especially when I wrestle. I know he throws a lot of kicks and you gotta be careful with that, itβs easy to take people down when they throw a lot of kicks.β
Maximov continued to explain his gameplan and why he feels so confident leading into this fight. βThere are little things that I see where I see a lot of openings so it will be cool. Iβm just gonna try and make it quick, Iβm not gonna lie. I have a Submission Underground next weekend so I gotta get in and get out.β
Maximov expressed just how excited he is to compete for LFA and what a win might mean for his exciting MMA career moving forward. βVery excited, man. I think if I win this fight I think this is it, I really do. I think this will get me to the big show. Just playing it by ear right now, but it would be nice.β
If Maximov picks up a win on Friday, a logical next step might be Dana Whiteβs Contender Series. I asked Nick his thoughts on that as a possibility.
βIf we have to, we have to,” he said, “I just donβt know when it ends, I donβt know much about it. I donβt know how much longer there is left of it otherwise Iβd do it in a heartbeat. Iβm just gonna keep staying in shape and if I get the call I get the call.β
