Newly signed Isaac Dulgarian taking patient approach to UFC career
Featherweight prospect Isaac Dulgarian believes he manifested his UFC contract after impressive first round finish over TeeJay Britton at FAC 12’s Lookin For A Fight
“(Eduardo) Dantas was right before me and had that nasty head kick finish,” Dulgarian told The Scrap. “And like my heart, honestly kind of sunk. I was like ‘how am I going to top that, that was insane?’ And I just told myself, I had to do something special when I loaded me up in the chute. And did my walkout came out. It did my thing and guess what happened? You know, I did something special. So I kind of manifested that and made that happen, and I couldn’t be any more blessed for the result.”
Dulgarian (5-0) only made his professional MMA debut in March 2021 and has since racked up five-straight first-round finishes. The Glory MMA product admitted the feedback was overwhelming on social media after the Las Vegas based promotion signed him to his UFC contract.
“I mean, I had 1000s of messages all over my social media and stuff,” Dulgarian explained. “A lot of my Armenian fans – I gained a tone of Armenian fans, they got a cult following. I think I’m the sixth UFC, active UFC fighter on the roster that’s Armenian. I spent, like the last two days trying to respond to as many messages as I could. Just because , I don’t like leaving people left out, man. I feel like you’re just giving them a genuine responses is the best way to do it. I may have to hire somebody to do that one day, but for now, I’m trying to handle all that on my own.”
While many fighters want to hit the ground running after joining the UFC, the 25-year-old plans on taking a patient approach to his career.
“(UFC) asked me if I wanted to go right away, or kind of wait a little bit,” Dulgarian said. “And I think the smartest move for me, is just to take my time. I’d like to debut by the end of the year or sometime later in the year if possible. I still have tons and tons of tons of potential that’s still untapped. And I feel like with the right nutrition plan and everything, I can really make a run and maybe get down to bantamweight and start causing trouble stirring up that division.”
Dulgarian added, “I’m still young, and I’m still developing. So like, if we could take take my time with this stuff, people are gonna be in trouble. I’ve only been fighting for like, three years. So I still I still have so much to learn”
