New WWE NXT Superstars: Who has potential to make an impact?

Read Time:3 Minute, 12 Second

WWE NXT has always had a constant and consistent stream of some of the best talents in the world. Recently, the black and gold brand welcomed six more that have the potential to make a massive impact.

5. Cameron Grimes

Cameron Grimes has been in NXT for quite a while now. However, up until recently, he wasn’t doing much. With him seemingly climbing the ranks on the black and gold brand, I believe it is time we get used to it. Grimes may not be extremely well known to fans of WWE. He is one of two on this list who made their names in Impact Wrestling. Formerly known as Trevor Lee, he was a standout in the famous X-Division.

He blends in-ring and character work amazingly. His whole character and branding in NXT has been fantastic, and he is running with it!

4. Damien Priest

Damien Priest snuck up on me. Admittedly I have never been an avid viewer of Ring of Honor. I have seen the old stuff (what I would call the glory days of the promotion) and the occasional big show. As a result, Punishment Martinez was a name I was not familiar with, really at all. So when the newly renamed Damien Priest debuted on NXT I had no idea what to expect.

At first, I didn’t get it and up until recently, I wasn’t sure he’d be a top player in the promotion. This changed at TakeOver: In Your House. His match against Finn Balor proved to me without a doubt that Priest can be a future NXT Champion, without a doubt!

3. Santos Escobar (FKA El Hijo Del Phantasma)

For those who may not know, Escobar was known as King Cuerno in Lucha Underground. Although Lucha Underground did not last very long, it left a big impact. At the front of this groundbreaking style of wrestling, was Escobar. If you have not seen any of his work in that company I urge you to seek it out. He looks even more intimidating under the mask, and I love this sinister gimmick for him.

As soon as he debuted in the mini-tournament, I know he would be a big part of NXT. While he isn’t a huge part of the show as of now, he will be.

2. Dexter Lumis

Dexter Lumis — much like Priest — snuck up on me. I was not familiar with Lumis (formerly Samuel Shaw) really at all prior to his debut. Lumis reminds me of NXT Elias in a lot of ways. When Elias was in NXT, he was always there looming in the background. There is something very intriguing about Lumis, but I can’t explain what. His silence speaks more volumes than any promo he could cut. In the ring, he is not a 5-star wrestler but he does not need to be. He makes up for it in how well he pulls off his character, whatever his character is.

I do not know what his future holds in NXT, but I believe he will be a major player for many months to come.

1.  Karrion Kross w/ Scarlett

This is another Impact export, and of this new crop of talent, the one I feel will make the biggest impact. He is already making that impact with a dominant win over Tomasso Ciampa, arguably the brand’s biggest star. However part of his appeal is also his manager, Scarlett. A lot of people may not know about Scarlett either. She was also in Impact and is fantastic at character work. Kross is very good in the ring and has a very naturally intimidating look. He also has one of the best entrances in wrestling today.

I Imagine Kross and Scarlett will be at the top of the brand for many weeks and months to come!
