Nate Diaz vs. Jorge Masvidal is the perfect fight between two ‘gangsters’

Nate Diaz returned in a big way at UFC 241 as he dominated Anthony Pettis and beat him by decision.

Following the fight, he made a perfect callout as he called out a ‘gangster’ in Jorge Masvidal.

“With this belt, I want to defend it against – Jorge Masvidal had a good last fight. Good last fight,” Diaz said after the fight. “All respect to the man, but there ain’t no gangsters in this game anymore. There ain’t nobody who does it right, but me and him. So I know my man’s a gangster, but he ain’t no West Coast gangster.”

Immediately, the camera turned to Jorge Masvidal in the crowd who had a massive smile on his face and looked like a kid in a candy store. His hand went up in excitement as he knew he was set for the big money fight he so desired. “Gamebred” also called that fight during fight week.

“In a heartbeat, we’re signing. I’ve been chasing the belt for 16 years, but that’s such a fight for me, for the fans, for the sport, and it’s two Latin dogs just going at it. We haven’t seen that in the sport too much. We need to see it. You’re just going to lock up two dogs in the cage and let them go. Let’s find out what happens,” Masvidal said to The Mac Life. “That’s a fight I would love. If that fight gets offered, we’re taking it. I’ve got 16 years working with one goal in mind, and that’s to get the belt, and if I’m not fighting for that belt and I’m so close to it and it was promised to me after the Ben Askren fight, it has to be something of significant force – and they’ve gotta pay me, man. That’s about it.”

Now, all signs point to that fight happening and it is a perfect fight. The two are fan favorites and have entertaining styles that always deliver. Jorge Masvidal is coming off of two spectacular knockout wins. Most recently, he knocked out Ben Askren in five seconds by flying knee and before that knocked out Darren Till in his home country.

Diaz, meanwhile, had the phenomenal performance against Diaz to return after three years away after the back-to-back fights against Conor McGregor.

Although it’s the perfect fight, whether or not it happens is to be seen. Even though Diaz called for it, it has been a struggle to get him inside the Octagon, but it is also a fight that could headline a pay-per-view card or be the co-main event and be a highly anticipated fight.

Regardless, Masvidal is very interested in the fight and would like to do it near Diaz’s home state of California. Except that he doesn’t like the tax state.

“Nate was right about one thing, I ain’t no West Coast Gangster,” Masvidal said in a recent video he uploaded on his YouTube channel. “But I’m from Miami-Dade County. I’m a dirty south goon. Damn right, I ain’t no West Coast gangster.”

“And I’m ready. I’m ready to put it all on the line,” he continued. “And I’m so gangster with it, we could do it – besides the seven percent tax in Cali – I would love to do it in Cali.”

For Masvidal, he also says talks have already begun for the fight so it appears it may happen.

“My Miami peeps, don’t get mad at me if the fight is not here. I’m just gonna do what works for me,” he said. “We’re ready for this fight, man, we’re ready. We’re just negotiating now, and let’s give the fans a fight that they want to see. Two dogs, locked in the cage, going for the jugular.”

“You know that I can get hit with a baseball bat, it don’t mean nothing. Same thing with my rival. You can hit that dude with a f—king baseball bat to the knee caps, he’s gonna keep coming. It’s a fight that the fans want, and they’re gonna get it. I’mma give it my all, I know Nate’s gonna give it his all, and let’s do it.”

In the end, Jorge Masvidal vs. Nate Diaz is the perfect fight between two longtime ‘gangsters’ in the UFC and one that needs to happen in 2019.
