MMA Moms: Kyle Nelson ‘owes this crazy career and lifestyle’ to mother
Leading up to Mother’s Day in May, The Scrap will be honoring the mothers of MMA fighters.
Kyle “The Monster” Nelson (13-3 MMA) is a Canadian UFC featherweight fighting out of Huntsville, Ontario. Nelson began his UFC career at UFC 231 in December 2018.
“The Monster” acknowledged that he discovered MMA with his mother. “We started watching the first season of The Ultimate Fighter together. It took her a little while to get used to some of the blood, but she soon loved it.”
Nelson said when he told his mom that he planned to compete in MMA and hoped to one day be in the UFC “She was always super supportive.”
The 28-year-old mentioned that both of his parents drove him all around Canada and some of the United States to train and compete in Jiu-Jitsu, kickboxing, and MMA.
He expressed matter-of-factly about his mom’s influence on his fighting career, “I owe this crazy career and lifestyle to my mother and I wouldn’t want it any other way.”
