Left off Bellator Featherweight Grand Prix, Cris Lencioni wants fight with AJ Agazarm next
Cris Lencioni is coming off a first-round submission win over Adil Benjilany at Bellator 211 and was looking forward to entering the Bellator Featherweight Grand Prix. However, when Scott Coker made an appearance on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show to announce the participants competing in the tournament, Lencioni was left off the list.
When Cris spoke to The Scrap in May, he was hoping to land another fight in July or August. After no contact from Bellator regarding the Grand Prix in September, Lencioni now eyes a fight with, “his biggest fan,” AJ Agazarm.
As a fan, I looked into this guy after finally sending back his 8×10, personalized. On it's way kid! Anyway's a rep from the Diaz camp let me know he qualified for his black belt. Congrats!! 🎈 @TheFloridaBoy @BellatorMMA pic.twitter.com/rtxFf9GjoG

Agazarm (1-1 MMA) recently made the transition to mixed martial arts full-time. After losing his professional debut in January, the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu star bounced back with a first-round submission win against Jacob Landin earlier this month. Since AJ’s win at Bellator 224, Lencioni (5-2 MMA) has been campaigning for a fight with the lightweight, calling him out on social media.
Lencioni’s recent win in April got him back on track and in the spotlight. The submission specialist has a 5-2 record with his only losses coming via unanimous decision. Hoping for a fall return, “Sunshine” wants a shot at Agazarm under the Bellator banner. With 4 submission wins under his belt, Lencioni would be the perfect opponent and test for “The Florida Boy.”
Agazarm needs quality opponents and Lencioni needs his opportunity to prove he’s a future title contender at featherweight. It’s a no-brainer. If Bellator provides the proper backing, this fight could generate tons of hype and produce quality promos.
Both men have larger-than-life personalities and a phenomenal jiu jitsu game that could steal the show on any main card.
Book it.
