Kyle “Monster” Nelson to fight Marco Polo “El Toro” Reyes at UFC Mexico
Canada will be represented in the Octagon by Kyle “The Monster” Nelson, September 21 at UFC Mexico.
Kyle Nelson out of Huntsville, Ontario will battle Marco Polo “El Toro” Reyes in Mexico City. The show will feature Yair Rodriguez vs. Jeremy Stephens in the Main Event. Nelson (12-3-0) has lost both of his UFC bouts to date. He submitted to Matt Sayles via arm-triangle choke in Round 3 at UFC Ottawa. In addition, also his UFC debut– a 3-day notice match against Brazilian lightweight Diego Ferreira. Ferreira won the bout by second-round TKO last December at UFC 231 in Toronto.
Nelson is counting on an exciting matchup against Reyes.
Splitting his training time between House of Champions MMA in Stoney Creek, Para Bellum MMA in Oakville and Muskoka Kickboxing in Bracebridge, Kyle Nelson is anticipating an exciting matchup against The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America champion. “The Monster,” says he believes he has his opponent beat skill for skill in boxing and kickboxing. He also stated that he will let the knockout come to him instead of chasing it so hard.

Looking back on his performance in his past two fights, Nelson recognizes that he needs to pace himself better in the Octagon. He admitted that when battling Matt Sayles, he was looking for the knockout in the first round and by the round, he was tired from being so aggressive and “got sloppy”.
Nelson claims his skill level is hard to beat
When asked what separates him from other UFC featherweights, Nelson claimed that his clinch, ground game and stand up capabilities are all underrated. Inspired by fellow small-town Canadian, Georges St. Pierre, the featherweight admits that fighting for him is a lifestyle.
“It’s who I am, it’s in my blood.”
He revealed that he wanted to pursue boxing at the age of 4 when he first saw Rocky. However, Nelson didn’t start training until the age of 14. He described his reaction at getting the call from the UFC. Nelson said, “It’s a feeling you can’t get outside of chasing a lifelong dream”. He added there is much hard work and so much time that goes into pursuing the dream that nothing else can relate to that moment.
