Justin Gaethje vs. Dan Hooker: The Most Violent Fight in UFC History?
In a sport as physically demanding as MMA, countless matchups could deliver sheer violence. Yet, at UFC 313, we may just see the most violent fight of them all. If there’s one thing we know about Justin Gaethje and Dan Hooker, it’s that anytime they step into the octagon, expect severe bloodshed. In his 30 grueling fights, Gaethje has only gone the distance four times. Hooker on the other hand, has reached the final bell in a number of career-shortening wars.
The UFC has seen bloody wars like Lawler vs. MacDonald 2, Hunt vs. Bigfoot, and the list goes on. Somehow, this matchup on March 8th has the chance to top even the most violent fights in the company’s history. Don’t be surprised if UFC hands out hazmat suits for anyone sitting in the “splatter zone”. During a recent interview with ESPN, Hooker stated that immediately after the fight, he’s going straight into the back of an ambulance, and to the hospital. I’ve come to terms with that’s how this night is going to end, baby”. Nothing is more on-brand from Hooker, and you have to think Gaethje has similar feelings.
In 13 career UFC fights, Justin Gaethje has accumulated an astonishing 13 performance bonuses. It’s truly a feat that may never be replicated in this promotion again. In a sport where you don’t always feel your best on fight night, Gaethje has delivered for fans time and time again. Interestingly enough, Dana White seemed intrigued at the idea of a BMF tournament. It would feature a four-man bracket including Gaethje, Hooker, Poirier, and Holloway. With 50% of that bracket technically now in place, will Dana pull the trigger and book Holloway-Poirier next?
This is a massive fight for Dan Hooker, who is slowly creeping back into title contention following his three-straight victories. As for Gathje, it seems to be a different vibe. Justin is coming off losses to some of the top guys, so he’ll look to recapture his momentum. We have seen Gaethje bounce back from adversity many times in his career… But can he do it again at age 36? It won’t be easy against someone like Hooker, who seems to have found his stride again.
