Bellator 238: Julia Budd feels Cris Cyborg fight is perfect timing

Read Time:1 Minute, 19 Second

There has only been one women’s champion in Bellator’s 145 division, and that is Julia Budd.

Budd has 15 pro MMA fights including legends like Amanda Nunes and Ronda Rousey. But this weekend, the Canadian kickboxer faces undoubtedly her toughest fight in Bellator, Cris Cyborg.

The Scrap’s Drake Riggs had the opportunity to talk to Budd ahead of her huge main event fight.

Budd has been in Bellator since 2015, but was crowned the inaugural women’s featherweight champion two years later. “I’m just so blessed to be here and I can’t wait to go out and show the world what I’m gonna do,” said Budd. She will defend her championship in a long-awaited bout with Cris Cyborg on Saturday.

Although the fight has been rumoured and discussed since 2013, she feels this is the perfect time. Budd left Invicta for Bellator in 2014 and states, “It was a no brainer to sign with Bellator and leave Invicta”. Little did she know, it would lead to one of the biggest fights in women’s MMA. Although a lot of pressure comes with being in her position, it does not phase her.

“I’m very comfortable at the top.”

She feels she has all the tools to defeat one of the pioneers in WMMA. “At the end of the day, I just know I’ve studied her and watched every single one of her fights,” said Budd. “I’m ready for this.”

You can watch Bellator 238: Budd vs. Cyborg on January 25th in the main event, live on DAZN.
