Journey Newson relishing underdog role while it lasts (VIDEO)

The only thing missing from Journey Newson’s banner night at UFC 247 was an extra $50,000.

The Oregon native picked up his first UFC win in emphatic fashion on Saturday night in Houston with a 38-second KO of Domingo Pilarte. The bantamweight bout took place during the UFC Fight Pass preliminary portion of the event at the Toyota Center.

Newson joined The Scrap to discuss the big win and how it hasn’t sunk in quite yet, being glad the fight didn’t go to the judges’ scorecards, the head kick he took early on that may require surgery on his jaw, how his career in MMA began, what he learned from his UFC debut in June against Ricardo Ramos, hoping to fight on April 11 in his home state of Oregon, relishing the underdog mentality, and more.
