Johnny Muñoz: ‘I am going to be the next big thing in MMA’
The Scrap caught up with KOTC bantamweight champion, Johnny Muñoz, ahead of his fight at King of the Cage: Reaction Time.
All of Munoz’s fights have been with King of the Cage. He started with the promotion in 2014 and is currently undefeated, hoping to rack up another win on September 7. The current bantamweight champ (9-0-0) will face Ian King (5-3-0) at the Arizona BlueWater Casino.

Muñoz said he is excited for this fight and feels ready for it. When asked about his opponent, he stated, “I am expecting the best version of Ian King in there.” The C-Quence Jiu-Jitsu fighter feels he will get the better of his opponent in all areas of combat. “I am bringing my A-game,” said Muñoz. “I am a very well-rounded fighter.”
Known as “Kid Kvenbo” in the cage, Muñoz started Jiu-Jitsu at age of 5. His parents enrolled him in the sport so he could learn discipline and self-defense. Hating the sport until about the age of 8 or 9, his parents are the biggest influences for not letting him give up on his training.
After his next fight, Muñoz is confident he has one or two more until he reaches his goal of being in the UFC. It’s only a matter of time until the big leagues start calling.
