Joanna Jedrzejczyk talks Zhang Weili rematch, and future in MMA
Joanna Jedrzejczyk, one of the most captivating and ruthless fighters in Women’s MMA, is plotting a comeback.
After almost two years since her historic “Fight of the Year” performance with Zhang Weili, Jedrzejczyk has recently spoken with Damon Martin in an interview where she openly explains what’s been going on with her absence from MMA, and exactly how she wants to return.
Joanna Jedrzejczyk Sets Things Straight
“…I accomplished a lot in this sport and it’s not about the money, but I feel like I’m in the spot where I can ask for more money because I deserve this… I deserve this and I know my worth… it’s hard, man, because so many people are like: ‘maybe you should stop fighting, you shouldn’t be doing this. You do this you do that, you have this business, the other business’ but you can’t.. you can’t stop the life, ya know?” Jedrzejczyk told Martin.
“It’s been two years and I ask myself… ‘why you took so long?’ But then I’m realizing like, ‘Girl, you been working this last 24 months and you were on a mission and you were reaching your goals, your dreams’…But I wanna get this paycheck ya know. I feel like… I can do it and I want to go there, I want to step in there into the octagon and fight with one of the best or the greatest. The champ or the #1 (contender)… this is what I’m waiting for.”
“I Want Big Fights”
Joanna Jedrzejczyk also talked about how she feels, she makes more money outside the UFC than she does fighting for the promotion. And how with 18 years in the game, MMA has always been a big passion but she’s been exploring other dreams these past few years.
She also mentioned that she has two fights left on her contract, and when she makes a return she’s wanting to fight more often.
“I don’t want an easy fight, cause I’ll be training hard like for the championship fight… So I prefer to fight big name, #1 (contender), or the champion. I heard Weili Zhang might not be back until late July or August… I can wait and I want to wait, but on the other hand, I don’t want to wait that long. So I don’t know, it’s complicated man because all the girls from 1 to 10 are booked, but like I said, I’m only looking at the big, big, big fights.”
So, who do you think Jedrzejczyk fights next? Since the top of the division is already matched up with fights, a Zhang Weili rematch seems like one of the only options.
Who you think Joanna Jedrzejczyk should fight next?
