Jennifer Maia: ‘I have more experience after facing the champion’
The No. 4 ranked women’s flyweight Jennifer Maia (18-7-1) will take on the No. 9 ranked Jessica “Evil” Eye (15-9) at UFC 264 on July 10. The Scrap recently spoke to Maia who is preparing for the fight in her native country of Brazil.
“I know Jessica Eye is very experienced and has a complete game,” Maia said. As for her training camp, the 32-year-old revealed her focus during the week involves Muay Thai, Jiu-Jitsu, wrestling, boxing, and physical preparation. “I’m feeling great with every workout.”
As the saying goes, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Maia admitted she is keeping the same training regimen as in her previous fight camps. However, she added, “I have more experience after facing the champion.”
Jennifer Maia fought Valentina “Bullet” Shevchenko (21-3) at UFC 255 in November. She lost the fight by unanimous decision. Maia is only the second flyweight in UFC history to win a round over Shevchenko.
When asked how this upcoming fight will play out the Brazilian replied; “It’s difficult to say how it will end, but I will find myself with my arm raised and victorious. I am very happy with this fight. I thank everyone who accompanies me. I’m doing an excellent training camp to give everyone a great fight.”
