Colby Covington seems to have a lot of words to eat after his loss to Kamaru Usman at UFC 245. He might have a hard time chewing on them though, because of his broken jaw.
Take a look at some of his recent quotes.
“There’s no one in the division that can beat me, not even the champion can beat me”.
“Usman’s a scrub man. He’s not relevant. No one cares about him. People don’t want to see him fight”.
Even after his loss, he blames referee Marc Goddard for stopping the fight too early and calling breaks for fake injuries. The match was called with 50 seconds left on the clock. Usman threw down punches as Covington laid on the ground. In the third round “Chaos” took a massive blow to the head.
Medical tests after the fight revealed a non-displaced midline mandible fracture, meaning his jaw was cracked near the centre of his chin.
Covington doesn’t censor his words, thoughts or actions. He regularly says whatever is on his mind. From insulting Brazilians to getting into an altercation at the buffet line of the Palms Casino Resort with Usman and his manager Ali Abdelaziz, he truly creates chaos wherever he goes. One of his quotes matter-of-factly is “I don’t care about people’s feelings, and I’m triggering people worldwide”.
This general disregard for others extends all the way to his gym American Top Team where teammates Jorge Masvidal, Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Dustin Poirier have all denounced the fighter’s character and actions.
There is a general belief; however, amongst the MMA community that he’s playing a character in order to promote fights. Hopefully this is true. No one can really be that much of an egomaniac can they? Do Covington’s actions make him a fighter that people love to hate?
