G1 Climax 32: Participants Analysis
NJPW recently revealed the participants of this year’s G1 Climax, the most prestigious tournament in wrestling. Some of the names in the tournament were no surprises, like Kazuchika Okada or Tomohiro Ishii. This year’s G1 is the first one in almost two years to finally feature wrestlers outside of NJPW.
One of the biggest names out of this year’s G1 is that of Kota Ibushi, due to the recent problems he has had with NJPW’s management. For now, his future with NJPW looks uncertain and only time will tell regarding this subject.
The particpants on this year’s G1 are:
- Kazuchika Okada
- Hiroshi Tanahashi
- Tetsuya Naito
- Tama Tonga
- Shingo Takagi
- Chase Owens
- Bad Luck Fale
- Yujiro Takahashi
- EVIL
- Tom Lawlor
- Juice Robinson
- JONAH
- YOSHI-HASHI
- Toru Yano
- Tomohiro Ishii
- Jeff Cobb
- Great-O-Khan
- Will Ospreay
- Aaron Henare
- SANADA
- Jay White
- KENTA
- El Phantasmo
- Taichi
- Zack Sabre Jr.
- Lance Archer
- David Finlay
The list of participants is interesting, but most fans were expecting more AEW names in it, like Bryan Danielson for example. Lance Archer will be the only wrestler under an AEW contract that will participate on this year’s G1. Maybe next year, more AEW wrestlers will join the G1 Climax. But for now, Archer will do.
It was also surprising the lack of IMPACT wrestlers on this year’s G1 too, particularly Josh Alexander. He is a wrestler that fans wanted to see in the G1.
In terms of favorites, the usual suspects like Okada, Tanahashi, and Naito are the current favorites. But it will all depends on in which block they’ll be placed in. A name that could also make a splash is Ospreay, so he should also be on the favorites list this year.
The G1 Climax will begin July 16 and the finals will take place on August 18.
