Former UFC Fighter Tyson Pedro Scores Emphatic Knockout in Boxing Debut
Fighters in the mixed martial arts world are increasingly stepping into boxing occasionally. Legends like Anderson Silva, Jose Aldo, and Vitor Belfort have tried their hand in the ring. Many more have made the transition to boxing permanent after hanging up the MMA gloves. The latest MMA fighter to make this leap in their career is Australian former UFC light heavyweight, Tyson Pedro.
From UFC to Boxing
Tyson Pedro (10-5-0) was known for his exciting fight style inside the UFC octagon. He holds impressive wins over Khalil Rountree Jr. and Paul Craig. His last MMA fight was back on March 2, 2024, against the exciting Brazilian prospect, Vitor Petrino. Pedro lost this fight via unanimous decision.
Now, Pedro has his sights set on becoming a world champion in boxing. His exciting debut came after a series of canceled bouts over close to a year-long stretch. It was against Pakistan’s undefeated Taimoor Khan (15-1-0, 13 KO). It was a ten-round bout for the WBC International Bridgerweight Championship inside the Panthers Rugby League Club in Penrith, Australia.
The Highlight Reel Debut
Pedro, 33, displayed a composed game inside the ring as he patiently fought behind his snapping jab. He controlled the distance efficiently on the younger, yet more experienced boxer. The former UFC fighter applied pressure on Khan over seven rounds. Khan was forced to throw telegraphed punches, but his entries were sloppy. Pedro consistently beat him to the punch. This led to him being ahead on all three judges’ scorecards up until the finishing sequence.
Tyson opened the seventh round aggressively as he cornered his opponent and drew out a labored left hook from Khan. The faster and sharper puncher, Pedro, capitalized on this mistake and delivered a well-timed straight right hand down the pipe. This punch visibly rocked Khan, forcing him into a defensive position. Pedro smartly tapped the high guard of his hurt opponent and shifted his focus to cracking blows to the midsection. Tyson finished the sequence with a hard right hand, sending Khan to the canvas. The undefeated 28-year-old Khan could not beat the count, so the referee called the fight. Pedro was ahead on all three scorecards (60-54, 59-55, 58-56) around the stoppage.
