Five of the best active fighter nicknames in Regional MMA

Read Time:2 Minute, 54 Second

Fighter nicknames are important, they become part of your brand and story. Most people have similar nicknames and it starts to get a bit… unoriginal. But this article isn’t for those people, it’s for those who go the extra mile to stick out from the bunch.

Read about seven of the best regional fighter nicknames below.

“The Alaskan Bull Worm” Aaron Phillips

Getting his start with TUF 29 last year, the YouTube trained fighter inspired his village of Kotzebue, Alaska with his story on The Return of The Ultimate Fighter. Though things did not go his way, he took his experience from the show and moved to Texas where he’s since evolved.

Now training with Gracie Barra Champions, Phillips has added BJJ to his arsenal, and proved to have drastically improved since his time on the show beating an experienced brown belt under the FirePower Promotions banner. But that’s not the only thing he added to his game, he also added a new nickname… AND WE LOVE IT. His personality on the show drew in fans, and now we can’t wait to continue seeing him progress on pursuit of his dreams.

“Warverine” Logan Paxton

Former North Dakota State University wrestler Logan Paxton not only has one of the more unique names in MMA, he also looks exactly like the person who inspired it. Just look at him… Logan really does resemble Wolverine, but changing it to fit a fighter — “Warverine” — is just genius.

We’re excited to see his career continue to blossom now that he’s moved to Colorado full-time. His LFA debut won him a nomination for Fight of the Year, just imagine how much better he’ll be with a full year at Team Elevation.

Alan “The Chinese Disappointment” Liu

The ironic thing about Alan Liu’s nickname, is he’s the complete opposite of a disappointment. Liu is one of the most well rounded amateur featherweights in the game right now. We at The Scrap cannot wait for him to test the professional ranks.

Remember the name – “The Chinese Disappointment” has a great smile, hilarious personality, and the makings to do big things in regional MMA this year.

Landry “Lone Star Kid” Ward

Combate Global has their next star in Landry Ward and MMA has their next cowboy to follow into the big leagues. His nickname is not only original, it’s memorable. So memorable in fact, I can’t stop laughing at this video every time I watch it…

I’m a big fan, the “Lone Star Kid” surely has my undivided attention. Not only is he long at lightweight; he is well-rounded, and trains at one of the rising gyms in MMA — Goat Shed Academy. Now 5-0, Ward will look to continue his undefeated streak with Combate Global before the eventual call-up which could happen this year.

Trevor “The Man Blackie Chan” Ollison

Though the start to Trevor’s 2022 hasn’t gotten off to a great start, he still makes our list with one of the most legendary nicknames possible… “The Man Blackie Chan”! And if you didn’t already see it, you can see the difference between Trevor and Black below:

I remember hearing the announcer saying Trevor’s nickname after his big first-round kimura finish at CFFC 105. Since then, I’ve been obsessed with it.
