Cris ‘Sunshine’ Lencioni and Braydon Akeo trade barbs after callout

Read Time:3 Minute, 33 Second

What’s one way for fighters to make a matchmaker’s job easier? Well, publicly agree to fight each other. Cris “Sunshine” Lencioni and Braydon Akeo have done just that.

2019 was quite a good year for Bellator featherweight prospect Cris “Sunshine” Lencioni when it comes to combat sports competition.

After a rough 2018 that saw him suffer the first and only two losses of his young seven-fight professional MMA career, Lencioni would rebound with a vintage win. Taking on a fellow bright prospect in Adil Benjilany at Bellator 221 in May, the American Top Team: Portland product would submit his foe with a first-round triangle.

To follow it up, he would go onto win three grappling matches. One of which being a tag team affair where he scored three submissions to get his team the victory 3-0. The other two saw him pick up a decision and most recently a one-armed kimura.

Now on a four-fight winning streak, Bellator was ready to get him back in the cage and they set him up with his highest-profile matchup yet. Unfortunately, Lencioni wouldn’t get to test himself in the bout as his would-be opponent, former two-division Glory kickboxing champion, Robin Van Roosmalen missed weight by nine pounds. Therefore canceling the bout.

Always itching to get back in action, Lencioni has since targeted the likes of rising BJJ ace AJ Agazarm. However, the Diaz brothers’ protege has now been matched with someone else. Leaving Lencioni as of Monday now finding himself as the one on the receiving end of a callout for a change.

Similarly to Lencioni, Hawaii’s Brandon Akeo also started his MMA journey on the Oregon regional circuit where he went 2-0 as an amateur before going pro. He would then go 3-0 and get the call up to Bellator as did the man known as “Sunshine” in 2017.

Unfortunately for Akeo, his debut wouldn’t seen him getting his hand raised as he took on the talented Tywan Claxton who defeated him by unanimous decision.

Always witty with his responses, Lencioni quickly responded and accepted the challenge thus prompting a back and forth.

Lencioni: “Hey! Only my wife calls me a ????. If you want the ☀️ you know I’m down to brighten your ????”

Akeo: “???? & I’m down to put your lights out ???? come on unko @rich_chou let’s do the damn thing”

Lencioni: “lol too much sun in Hawaii, got your brains fried! Nobody is putting Sunshine to bed!!!”

Akeo: “ima whoop yo ass & tuck you in like I’m your daddy”

Lencioni: “that’s insane. You are my son, following in my footsteps winning my amateur belt, getting into Bellator 2 years after me, losing to my favorite opponent @tclax149 , I get it, you want to impress DADDY”

Akeo: “ain’t nobody wanna be like you???? I won a belt and then wanted to fight for @bellatormma the best promotion in the ???? & I made my debut on the main card while your bumass is on the prelims”

Lencioni: “again my son, I’m very impressed daddy loves you. But you didn’t win that debut, they brought you In to lose son. It’s okay the truth hurt, your mother and I still love you and accept you.”

The two have fought on the same card before in the past at Rumble at the Roseland 93. Lencioni would face and defeat Dylan Atkinson with a first-round armbar. It was his third and final fight before getting signed to Bellator.

As for Akeo, his fight on the same card was his amateur debut where he also got a first-round submission but by rear-naked choke. His Bellator debut and loss to Claxton came as recently as 10 days ago at Bellator 235 in Hawaii.
