Creating The Perfect Roster: A Mock Draft of Wrestling’s Finest

Read Time:5 Minute, 10 Second

Once upon a time, it seemed like WWE had a monopoly on the best wrestling talent. But with the rise of companies like AEW and TNA, top wrestlers are now emerging from all corners of the industry.

Despite fan tribalism, healthy competition benefits not only WWE but professional wrestling as a whole. To celebrate this, we put together a mock draft of the top wrestling talent to build a company with. Factors such as in-ring ability, promo skills, and overall star power have all been considered. With the current roster of talent, this was no easy task! Read on to see who has assembled the superior roster.

  • #14 Pick (Lee): Charlotte Flair

Round 1 Recap

Lee: In the first round, my focus was on securing main event talent with minimal injury history. While I did draft Charlotte Flair, who does have an injury history, her undeniable talent and star power made her an easy pick. I also prioritized performers who are proven superstars with international appeal. Cody Rhodes and Jon Moxley are current champions in WWE and AEW, respectively. When building a company, it’s crucial to have both men and women who can be the face of your promotion when needed. Jacob Fatu and Will Ospreay are two of the hottest talents in the world right now. I also valued selecting former world champions like Kevin Owens and Bobby Lashley in this round. Lastly, I needed performers who could seamlessly transition between babyface and heel, which opens up endless storyline possibilities.

Marcos: The first round was crucial for me to select top-tier talent that can serve as major attractions in cities around the world. With Roman Reigns and MJF secured, I now have my top babyface and heel in the company—two stars who can be box office attractions and keep the company afloat even during tough times. Rhea Ripley will also be one of the cornerstones, leading my stacked women’s division. ‘Mami’s’ look and presence will elevate her to the level of my most popular male stars. Every division needs a giant monster capable of tipping the scales. I believe I’ve found that in Oba Femi, who has proven himself to be one of the most intimidating wrestlers worldwide. You could argue that Toni Storm is the face of AEW’s women’s division… So, pairing her with Ripley was a no-brainer. Perhaps I took too many heels, but passing on talents like Gunther and Drew McIntyre was too difficult. I’ll definitely need to add some babyfaces in Round 2.

Round 2

  • #15 Pick (Marcos): CM Punk
  • #16 Pick (Lee): Zack Sabre Jr.
  • #17 Pick (Marcos): Bianca Belair
  • #18 Pick (Lee): Jade Cargill
  • #19 Pick (Marcos): Mercedes Moné
  • #20 Pick (Lee): Jaida Parker
  • #21 Pick (Marcos): Kenny Omega
  • #22 Pick (Lee): Matt Riddle
  • #23 Pick (Marcos): Dominick Mysterio
  • #24 Pick (Lee): Tiffany Stratton
  • #25 Pick (Marcos): Konosuke Takeshita
  • #26 Pick (Lee): Swerve Strickland
  • #27 Pick (Marcos): Bryan Danielson
  • #28 Picks (Lee): Moose

Round 2 Recap

Lee: Jade Cargill, Jaida Parker, and Tiffany Stratton were essential picks to strengthen my women’s division with young talent who possess great in-ring skills. I targeted Swerve Strickland because he can do it all and excels in any type of match. Additionally, I wanted to show some love to NJPW, MLW, and TNA by drafting Zack Sabre Jr., Matt Riddle, and Moose. All are current champions and have competed on some of the biggest stages in wrestling. This round is also packed with former world champions. I used it to add depth to my roster in case of injuries—after all, the first match on the card can be just as critical as the main event. I addressed that need with quality picks later in the draft.

Marcos: Snagging CM Punk in Round 2 was a pleasant surprise and provided a much-needed babyface for my men’s division. Despite his age, it’s Punk’s character and charisma that connect with fans. I plan to use that to the fullest—even as his body may start to break down. Sorry, Lee, but adding Bianca Belair and Mercedes Moné has made my women’s roster the best in the world. Both women can easily challenge Rhea and Toni in the main event scene while also holding their own in the mid-card ranks. Jackpot! Much like Belair and Moné, drafting two top AEW stars like Kenny Omega and Bryan Danielson strengthens both my main event and mid-card scenes. “Dirty Dom” Mysterio will be groomed to eventually take over MJF’s spot as the top heel in the company. Until then, Mysterio will have countless programs with talent across the roster as he continues to build heat and add girlfriends. Konosuke Takeshita could gain global attention, especially with a push in the Japanese market.

Free Agent Signing

Matt Cardona (Lee): My free agent signing went to Matt Cardona. Cardona has carved out a solid niche on the indie circuit and has also competed in AEW, though he’s best known for his time in WWE. With his star power, Cardona has made a name for himself by appearing in nearly every wrestling organization and winning titles at almost every stop along the way.

Chelsea Green (Marcos): With the foundation of my roster set, I wanted to add more substance to the program. Who better to do that with than what I consider to be the most charismatic wrestler in the world? The believability of Chelsea Green’s character makes this a home run free agent signing and the perfect addition to my women’s division.
