Could John Cena Turn Face Again? Star Wars Lore Says Yes!
If you’re a pro wrestling fan who hasn’t been living under a rock, you’re well aware of what might be the greatest heel turn in professional wrestling history. At the 2025 Elimination Chamber, John Cena shattered the hearts of young fans by turning on Cody Rhodes to align with The Rock. A man who spent his entire career as a hero has now become the ultimate villain.
As with any major wrestling moment, speculation is running wild among die-hard fans. The current speculation is that there is no way John Cena retires as a heel. It’s hard to imagine someone so closely tied to Make-A-Wish ending his career without reclaiming his superhero status. Not to mention, Cena’s merchandise sales as a fan favorite are simply too valuable for WWE to ignore.
A recent but classic cryptic Instagram post from John Cena has only fueled fan speculation. Following his shocking heel turn, the 16-time world champion took to Instagram and, as usual, posted a captionless image—this time, of Darth Vader.
Vader, once the most powerful Jedi in the galaxy, turned to the dark side and shifted the balance of power in the Star Wars universe. His alliance with Emperor Palpatine (The Rock) made them an unstoppable force. Naturally, fans have drawn parallels between this and Cena’s betrayal.
But what if there’s a deeper meaning? As a Star Wars nerd myself, I couldn’t help but take a closer look…
While Darth Vader did turn his back on the Jedi Order, he ultimately returned to the light. In Return of the Jedi, he redeemed himself by destroying the Emperor and saving Luke Skywalker. I believe we could see a similar story unfold with The Rock, Cena, and Rhodes.
Who better to take down “The Final Boss” than his own right-hand man? A scenario where Rhodes is completely overpowered by The Rock and his authority, leaving Cena as WWE’s last hope to save its poster boy, makes sense. And with Triple H’s elite booking, the payoff could be just as shocking as the initial heel turn.
Apologies to non-Star Wars fans, but don’t be surprised if John Cena ends his career as a babyface. Whether it happens or not, it’s certainly an interesting theory to consider.
