Conor McGregor claims he’s returning at UFC 246
Conor McGregor has made a concrete claim for when he’ll be returning. And according to him, that will take place at the T-Mobile Arena.
Conor McGregor had his last fight come just a little over a year ago when he took on his longtime rival, Khabib Nurmagomedov. Unfortunately for the former two-division champion, he wouldn’t be able to reclaim the lightweight crown against “The Eagle” as he succumbed to a fourth-round submission (neck-crank).
Since that fight, McGregor has fulfilled a sixth-month suspension for his post-fight actions against Nurmagomedov and found himself littered with legal issues. The most recent being two sexual assault allegations that are currently still under investigation according to the New York Times.
Regardless, McGregor and the UFC seem to be working on his return.
At a press conference in Moscow, Russia, McGregor announced that he’ll be returning to action at what would be UFC 246 on Jan. 18 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Despite the claim of a return, McGregor wouldn’t name an opponent nor has the UFC officially announced anything.
ESPN’s Ariel Helwani quickly followed up the “announcement” reporting that no fight is signed but the top candidates are Justin Gaethje and Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone. The latter being the top choice at this time.
Initially, McGregor made it clear recently on Twitter that he was wanting to face a fellow former 155-pound champion in Frankie Edgar at UFC 245 on Dec. 14. Although Edgar was also interested, the UFC was not. Thus leading to a potential pay-per-view in January which wasn’t a part of the UFC’s 2020 schedule until negotiations started beginning, per Helwani.
For McGregor, his last victory came at UFC 205 over Eddie Alvarez in Nov. 2016. That event was the first time the UFC held an event in Madison Square Garden and saw the Irishman obtain the lightweight title via second-round TKO.
No matter who Conor McGregor faces out of the possibilities, it looks to be someone in the top 10 of the lightweight ranks.
