Cody Rhodes vs. Roman Reigns: Who Should Win?

Read Time:2 Minute, 29 Second

WrestleMania 39 is just around the corner, and speculation about all sorts of subjects regarding the biggest WWE PPV of the year are starting to intensify. The biggest topic everyone is talking about right now is around who should win between Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes.

Roman’s Case

There are several ways to look at this, and factors to consider. The first factor to consider is The Rock. Yes it’s hard to believe he is a factor to consider, but he is a key factor to all this. It’s no secret that WWE’s original plans for this year’s WrestleMania was having Roman Reigns face The Rock. Obviously those plans didn’t end up happening for multiple reasons. Now, WWE could try and book the match for SummerSlam, or wait for next year’s WrestleMania.

If WWE and The Rock are able to make this match happen, either at WrestleMania or SummerSlam, then it’s very likely they will keep booking Roman strong for a bit longer. If they go this route, they will likely have him retain, and then have him lose the title after the program takes place. All this is up in the air though, considering The Rock’s schedule…

Another factor that enters this equation is Roman’s long reign as WWE Universal Champion. Reigns is close to a 1,000 days reign as Universal Champion, and WWE loves breaking records. WWE could get their long 1,000 days with Roman if he is able to keep the title after WrestleMania.

Cody’s Case

Cody Rhodes is the last fresh opponent Reigns has left on the WWE roster. After this, there is no one left, unless we consider The Rock. But, that remains unlikely to happen… Rhodes and Sami Zayn are the hottest babyfaces WWE has at the moment, and the story between Zayn and Reigns seems over. Timing also seems to favor Rhodes, as it would be the perfect moment for him to finally become WWE Champion.

Rhodes, unlike Reigns, has all kinds of fresh opponents to defend against. It would also send a message to AEW wrestlers looking to make the jump to WWE. It would be the perfect example for them to realize they too could become WWE champions one day, while making more money.

But… Who Should Win?

The answer is obvious, Cody Rhodes. The American Nightmare makes the most sense; it would allow WWE to tell different stories, and book fresh matches with their world title. Business-wise, it makes sense too, especially considering Rhodes is one of the hottest babyfaces right now.

While all logic points to Rhodes winning, there are alternatives to consider in all this like a potential Rock match for Reigns. There is also the fact WWE could stretch the program between Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes until the next PPV, and then have Rhodes take one of the titles off of The Tribal Chief.
