Macy Chiasson vs. Nicco Montano among latest additions to UFC Rio Rancho
UFC Rio Rancho is beginning to get its fights announced. With the main event revealed earlier this week, more bouts have since come to fruition.
With the rematch between the light heavyweight top contenders in Corey Anderson and Jan Blachowicz targeted to be the UFC Rio Rancho main event in February, it now leaves fans pondering how the rest of the card will look. Well, a clearer picture is starting to be drawn.
Albuquerque Journal confirmed two additional bookings on Tuesday. The first of which is a bantamweight showdown between The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) season 28 winner, Macy Chiasson (5-1) and former UFC flyweight champion Nicco Montano (4-3).
Accompanied with that fight’s revealing for the Feb. 15 event in New Mexico was another light heavyweight collision. Devin “Brown Bear” Clark (10-4) will look to rebound off a tough loss to Ryan Spann when he faces off with Russia’s Gadzhimurad Antigulov (20-6). For Antigulov, he’ll be looking to snap a two-fight losing streak that saw him finished by strikes in both outings.
In the case of Chiasson vs. Montano, they’re also both coming off of losses. Chiasson’s being the first of her career when she suffered a unanimous decision loss to Lina Lansberg at UFC Copenhagen.
The former champion Montano, on the other hand, returned to the 135-pound weight class her last time out when she fought Julianna Pena.
Pena, the TUF 18 winner, had come back after a lengthy two-year layoff where she began the journey of being a mother. Along with doing some commentary work for Combate Americas. Pena would end up getting the better of the inaugural UFC flyweight champ via a hard-fought unanimous decision.
UFC Rio Rancho only has five fights slated for the event at the moment. But they all look pretty solid and there’s only more to come. The current matchups can be seen below.
- Light Heavyweight – 205lbs: Corey Anderson vs. Jan Błachowicz
- Flyweight – 125lbs: Ray Borg vs. Rogério Bontorin
- Flyweight: Montana De La Rosa vs. Mara Romero Borella
- Light heavyweight: Devin Clark vs. Gadzhimuradov Antigulov
- Bantamweight – 135lbs: Macy Chiasson vs. Nicco Montano
