Casey Kenney, Nathaniel Wood set to meet at UFC 254
Last weekend, UFC Fight Island 4 saw bantamweight Casey Kenney (14-2) pick apart Heili Alateng en route to a unanimous decision victory. Despite not finishing his opponent, Kenney claimed at least one 10-8 round on two judges scorecards, and rightfully so, as his performance was nothing short of dominating.
Immediately after the final round ended, Kenney scaled the cage, claiming he wanted to fight the following weekend (yes, you read that correctly). The chances of this becoming a reality are fairly high as there are a number of 135-pounders competing on October 10, however, for the time being, he has been matched alongside British submission ace Nathaniel Wood.
Nathaniel Wood (17-4) recently bounced back to the win column with a decision win against promotional newcomer John Castaneda. In this fight, “The Prospect” showcased a more patient approach than previously witnessed, putting more of an emphasis on his kicking game throughout their 15-minute encounter.
You can expect Wood to bring the fight at UFC 254, as he will be more than willing to exchange leather in a potential ‘Fight of the Night’ affair. A win for both gentlemen will propel them upwards in the rankings, likely placing the winner on the outskirts of the top 15.
As reported by MMA Heat’s Karyn Bryant, Kenney and Wood throw down at UFC 254, an immensely stacked pay-per-view card headed by undefeated lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and current interim titleholder Justin Gaethje.
