BREAKING: Bibiano Fernandes vs. John Lineker title fight in the works
In an interview with South China Morning Post, ONE Championship CEO Chatri Sityodtong confirmed that a fight between Bibiano Fernandes and John Lineker is in the works.
Currently in his second reign as champion, bantamweight’s Bibiano Fernandes (24-4) has long been recognised as one of the premier talents outside of the UFC. Training under the respected Matt Hume, Fernandes has compiled a promotional record of 13-1 that includes wins over former champions Kevin Belingon and Martin Nguyen. He’ll have the task of defending his crown against menacing puncher John Lineker.
For Lineker (34-9), it was only a question of when he was going to get his crack at ONE Championship gold; three victories in a row including a finish over the aforementioned Belingon cannot go unnoticed. And as a highly experienced UFC vet with the resume to match, expect “Hands of Stone” to open as a slight favorite over the champ.
Lineker last competed in April, knocking out short-notice replacement Troy Worthen.
