Bold Predictions for WrestleMania 41
WrestleMania 41 may be arriving with lukewarm momentum. But if history has taught us anything, it’s that low expectations often birth unforgettable moments. While the card itself has drawn mixed reactions online—due to puzzling builds, missed matchups, and questionable creative—there’s still plenty of potential for WWE’s biggest show of the year to shock the world. From long-awaited returns and shocking heel victories to legacy-defining moments, this year’s ‘Mania could end up defying the odds.
So let’s dive into a handful of bold predictions that might just become the talk of the wrestling world come Monday morning.
Gunther Squashes Jey Uso
In my opinion, this is the outcome that should be booked on Night 1 of WrestleMania 41. Gunther’s World Championship reign, like much of WWE’s current booking, has been underwhelming to say the least. Following a hot start and classic against Randy Orton, the champion’s momentum has never measured up to his previous Intercontinental Championship run. Underwhelming matches against Damian Priest and Jey Uso did little to elevate things. It only worsened by a shocking lack of activity on the weekly product.
As bland as a title defense against Jey Uso may seem to many online, the one thing this could serve as is a launching pad to boost a title run that has been missing that spark many were anticipating. While an outright squash may not be on the cards, a dominant, vicious victory might be the way to preserve a reign with so much potential.
Jey Uso’s popularity with the average WWE fan seems to be the only reason for a match that shouldn’t mark the end of a title reign that deserves far better.
The Bloodline Implodes
LA Knight vs. Jacob Fatu feels like the moment WWE aims to crown its next Samoan headliner. Ever since his arrival and overshadowing of Solo Sikoa following WrestleMania 40, the inevitable crowning of Fatu on a big stage is long overdue.
His match against LA Knight could be his biggest achievement thus far. But, it’s also one that puts a halt to the Bloodline. The group has been aimless for weeks, especially following Sikoa’s loss to Roman Reigns earlier in the year. It requires a fresh angle to move along the potential of each stable member.
Jacob Fatu is a guaranteed star in the making. Going purely by his matches against Braun Strowman, his backstage promo work and the level of aura he oozes from a single superkick, shows that his act has seemingly outgrown the stable he joined almost a year ago. Regardless of a win or a loss, The Bloodline’s time might be running out.
Big Time Returns
WrestleMania weekend has been home to the most iconic comebacks in the history of professional wrestling. Brock Lesnar after Wrestlemania 28. Bobby Lashley after WrestleMania 34. Cody Rhodes returning to compete at WrestleMania 38. Ricky Steamboat competing for the first time in a decade at WrestleMania 25. Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania X8.
Each return created a bona fide WrestleMania moment that encapsulated the show’s spectacle. This year might not be any different. As Aleister Black and Rusev (formerly Miro) depart from AEW, the likelihood of their returns feels imminent. Both were overlooked under the McMahon regime, so things could be different under new leadership after years in enemy territory.
Bigger names like The Rock, Steve Austin, and Travis Scott all make sense in their own right. They each seamlessly fitt into the star-studded main event scene. All three could help carry forward a story that’s felt unresolved since Elimination Chamber.
John Cena Becomes Immortal
In fairness, it was hard to imagine John Cena not at least tying Ric Flair’s record for World Championship wins. His storied legacy, endless array of classics and timeless feuds make him probably the only logical choice to win the unattainable 17th World Championship.
The feud with Cody Rhodes has failed to live up to the lofty viral sensation Cena’s heel turn became. But, the notion of breaking a record that has stood for decades could carry this match on its own. As the door shuts on his career in less than 9 months, there’s no better way to cement his final run than by breaking the unbreakable.
This rivalry needs something to carve its place in the history books beyond a pinfall or submission. Stakes here remain low… But Cena breaking Flair’s record is a feat no one will likely achieve for a very long time.
Dominik Mysterio Strikes Gold
The Fatal-4-Way match for the Intercontinental Championship is one of the few matches at WrestleMania 41 that will have a solid outcome, regardless of who gets the pin.
Finn Balor is in desperate need of an overdue win on a major show. Penta is amongst the company’s hottest acts. Bron Breakker makes the highlight reels every time he’s in action. But, it’s Dominik Mysterio who many overlook.
Dominik is somewhat of a dark horse going into this one. He is one of the few genuinely unlikeable heels in WWE. He has also managed to show the ability to carry a championship reign during his stint on NXT. While not as popular as Balor or Penta to take the championship off of Breakker, he would be a welcome swerve, as unpopular as he might be.
Imagining Dominik stealing a last-second pinfall victory is something that might not be a popular decision. But, it’s one I wouldn’t be surprised by.
The Card Exceeds Expectations
This year’s build has been underwhelming, marked by the absence of major stars like John Cena and The Rock, and the underutilization of talents like Drew McIntyre. The mid-card feels disjointed, and most concerning of all, WWE has failed to follow up on potential matchups that could have been set up a year ago.
Cody vs. Rock or Orton, Punk vs. Rollins, and Cena vs. Gunther all feel more cohesive and interesting than the card we’ve been given. While all hope isn’t lost considering the talent on the card itself, something about this year’s build has left many deflated about any outcome we may get. The feeling of this year’s show being a culmination of an extended, wider story just isn’t there this time.
However, much like WrestleMania 31 & 33, this show might not be alone in having an underwhelming card that blows our expectations out of the water. With 14 matches and a red-hot fanbase, the chance exists for WrestleMania 41 to mark itself amongst the greats. But, it has to ensure it does better than the road leading to it.
