Aaron Jeffery & Austin Vanderford discuss Bellator 284 fight
Aaron Jeffery and Austin Vanderford battle in a middleweight matchup at Bellator 284 on August 12th.
I spoke with both fighters ahead of their bout at the pre-fight virtual media day. Excerpts from our chat are below…
Aaron Jeffery & Austin Vanderford
If any family would be in attendance after his brother was cage-side for the Bellator debut–
Jeffery said: “No, they won’t be here. My girlfriend’s here with me. She’s at all my fights so that’s super important. But no, my family actually just traveled down to visit me. They live like seventeen hours north and they’re all at my mom’s place right now. So they won’t be here for this, but it’s going to be nice because after the fight I’ll be able to take a bit of time off. Spend some time with them which I don’t get to do too often.”
Getting multiple career finishes similar to his Bellator debut and if that’s a testament to his broader work ethic or just similar openings being seen across multiple fights–
Jeffery said: “I think a little bit of both. Like I said, I’m always training hard year-round. I’m always ready. I think that’s kind of my style. Like I said, my defensive wrestling is good, my clinch work is good. Yeah, I would love to do that again in this fight. Kind of stuff some shots, beat him up on the wall, and get a finish there.”
Bellator 284
The level of familiarity with Aaron Jeffery before this late notice matchup came about–
Vanderford said: “I’ve seen him compete on the Contender Series and then of course, I watched his Bellator debut. Then when they told me about the opponent change we checked things out and stuff. Like I say, he’s had some good fights. He’s fought some tough competition and he’ll be ready to go out and fight. I’d imagine if he’s taking the fight on eight days’ notice he feels good about where he’s at with his cardio and all that stuff. I look forward to going out and testing him.”
Josh Hill also having the Gentleman nickname and if Hill has interacted with Vanderford on fight week–
Vanderford said: “Oh yeah. I can’t think if I’ve seen him or not. We definitely haven’t like said hi to each other. But that’s cool though, two of us. Two gentlemen, he must be a really nice guy.”
