A Super-Card Show for Joshi Wrestling
The crossover show that will take place on January 8 between NJPW and NOAH is one of the most exciting shows for 2022. With this show taking place soon, the idea of joshi (women’s wrestling) could happen if night three of Wrestle Kingdom is successful.
Cyber Agent (parent company of NOAH & NJPW) and Bushiroad (parent company of NJPW & STARDOM) will look at this show really closely and if things go smoothly, the idea of TJPW and STARDOM having a joint show could be a reality.
STARDOM is one of the hottest promotions in Japan right now and it is even outselling NOAH in several major arenas in Japan. TJPW is also doing very well in terms of interest in Japan. Two of the biggest joshi promotions working together would be the next logical step, depending how WK night three goes.
If a show of this scale happens, joshi promotions like Ice Ribbon, Marvelous, Oz Academy or Seadlinnng should also be involved. This would help the scene grow. The talent involved could be a show everyone around the world would want to watch. It would be great if talent like Riho, Shida, Sarray and Shirai, that work in the U.S. were also part of a show of this magnitude and attract as much eyes as possible.
The popularity of joshi wrestling is growing, not on the level seen in the 90s, but joshi promotions have the best women’s wrestling in the world and that’s not debatable.
Realistically, it’s hard to say if a show like this will ever happen. It really depends on how WK night three does, and so far the ticket sales for the show have been good. It’s one of the most anticipated shows of 2022.
Joshi wrestling could go that next level with a super-card show. What do you think?
