Mo Miller looking to seize DWCS opportunity after missing out on TUF 29
Mo Miller hopes to land a UFC contract in a different manner when he battles Brandon Lewis at DWCS: Week 3 on September 14.
The 29-year-old was originally slated to compete on Season 29 of ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ before a positive COVID-19 test took him out of the tournament.
“So I just finished up a camp ready to fly out and yeah, (the UFC) called me told me I had (COVID-19),” Miller told The Scrap. “I was devastated, obviously. I would have had to get there for Monday, it would have been a week of quarantine. So timing-wise, it wouldn’t really lined up with what they were trying to do. They just couldn’t pull the strings at the last minute, so here we are.”
Miller (5-0) last competed in December where he picked up a TKO victory over Regivaldo Carvalho at LFA 96. The Strong Style MMA standout has finished four of his last five opponents. Miller believes his level of competition will play a factor in the matchup against Lewis.
“I think he’s a tough fighter, I don’t really know too much about him,” Miller explained. “I know he was coming off an injury and maybe 2021 was his first fight back in February. But he hasn’t fought anyone like me. Nobody on his record is like me, so I think it’ll be his toughest fight for sure.”
Lewis (5-0) is coming off a split decision victory over previously undefeated Jimmy Meza at LFA 102. The 24-year-old has finished three of his five opponents in the professional ranks after going 6-1 as an amateur.
Without looking past Contender Series, Miller already has his sights set on who he’d like to fight in his promotional debut, should he earn a contract next week.
“I want to get rid of Brandon first and have a good performance. Then I want the TUF 29 winner, Ricky Turcios. He’s a good dude, a tough fighter. I feel like that (UFC contract) was mine, if that makes sense.”
