The Best Boxing to Watch in September

As 2021 continues to blow by like no tomorrow, September is upon us in the forever dramatic world of boxing.

Here are the biggest and best fights to tune in for this month –

Anthony Joshua vs. Oleksandr Usyk – September 25 @ Wembley Stadium, London

Exclusively shown on DAZN and Sky Sports PPV, Heavyweight king Anthony Joshua will defend his WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO titles against the former undisputed cruiserweight champion of the world Oleksandr Usyk.

The fight comes after talks between AJ and Tyson Fury failed miserably a few months ago. The storyline goes as follows; AJ has to win if he wants to a chance at Fury’s title and become undisputed.

But the fight isn’t a complete walk in the park for the Olympic gold medalist. Usyk recently moved up to heavyweight and becomes one of the most unique fighters in the division with his speed and footwork. This fight has all the potential to go down in British boxing and heavyweight history.

Before the main bill, fellow Briton Lawrence Okolie will defend his WBO cruiserweight belt for the first time as he takes on Dilan Prasovic for 12 scheduled rounds.

Josh Warrington vs. Mauricio Lara II – September 4 @ Leeds, England

A chance for redemption for The Leeds Warrior, Josh Warrington is set to fight early in the month as he takes on Mauricio Lara for the second time.

Falling short by a shock stoppage defeat in February, Warrington is wanting to prove it wasn’t his usual self in the ring last winter. Lara beat Warrington to the punch in the last fight and his power proved to become too much for the former IBF featherweight champ.

Shown exclusively on DAZN, viewers will also be treated to seeing the spectacle of Katie Taylor defending her undisputed lightweight titles against Jennifer Han before the main event. Conor Benn will also finally get his fight with Adrian Granados on the undercard of the show. Benn had previously been forced to pull out of the fight initially just to a positive COVID-19 test.

Oscar De La Hoya vs. Vitor Belfort – September 11, Los Angeles

To boxing purists it can come as an insult to include exhibition boxing in this list, but no matter what you think of the direction of the sport, we all can’t wait to see who win’s these outrageous events. However, this fight between The Golden Boy Oscar De La Hoya and Vitor Belfort has officially been confirmed as a professionally sanctioned bout by the California State Athletic Commission.

It is now about the return of one of boxing’s biggest stars as the former six-weight division champion of the world De La Hoya returns to ring for the first time since his retirement in 2008 De La Hoya has been very vocal in the boxing world in the last decade and began circling rumors last year of his intentions to get back in the squared circle.

The fight comes as another twist to the tale for Boxing vs. MMA. Will the UFC legend Belfort outbox one of the greatest fighters of his generation? The fight will exclusively been shown on Triller Fight Club PPV and feature the return of David Haye. Anderson Silva will also get his chance to get another win in the ring.
