James Gallagher vs. Patchy Mix set to headline Bellator 270 in Dublin
A pair of thrilling bantamweights in James Gallagher and Patchy Mix will sit atop the loaded Bellator 270 card scheduled to go down in Dublin, Ireland on November 5. Inside of Dublin’s 3Arena, the North American promotion will look to establish their international presence once again after a lull in events due to the global COVID-19 pandemic.
Ireland will be standing up for “The Strabanimal”, but the promotion also included a nugget in the form of top lightweight Patricky Freire taking on Peter Queally. The two contenders have unfinished business as their first bout ended unceremoniously. At the end of round two, a doctor stoppage was declared following Freire’s untenable cut. News of the announcement was first revealed by Bellator officials.
The last time Bellator MMA graced Ireland was back in February of 2020. Good things come to those who wait, and fans and pundits alike were forced to hold out even longer when the pairing between Mix and Gallagher was postponed. In fact, the initial fight was scheduled for May, but ultimately fell apart after the Irishman sustained a shoulder injury.
Struggling with the jowls of defeat on just one occasion, the 24-year old Gallagher crumbled at the hands of Ricky Bendajas back in 2018. Ever since the setback, the grappling phenom has utilized his ground skills and rebounded nicely, having won via submission in three of his last four fights, looking better than ever.
Bellator 270 – “Ireland, Baby, We Did It”
Mix, meanwhile, competed against Bandejas a year after Gallagher, and the American walked home with a rear-naked choke victory in the first round. Eleven of Mix’s fourteen wins have come by way of finish, so it stands to reason why these contenders should meet in the cage on Nov. 5.
With the two slated for their Bellator 270 encounter on Gallagher’s home soil, certainly, intrigue for this fight will continue to boil over. Mix–humble in his approach, imposes a threatening submission game too, and the match-up will determine which grappler should sit alongside the elite of the 135-pound weight class.
