VIDEO: Bassil Hafez training at Factory X ahead of CFFC title defense

Bassil Hafez knows he’s close to a UFC contract and that’s why the 29-year-old felt a change in scenery would be pivotal in his development as he’s made the move to Colorado to train at Factory X.

“So I came out for a week tried out and I fell in love in the gym,” Hafez told The Scrap. “Coach Mark Montoya is a genius when it comes to striking and MMA. I just really gravitated well towards him. The first week I came out and that was about three weeks ago it started and then now so I’ve been out here about two weeks. And it’ll be a month total that I’m standing out here with this camp. Then hopefully after the fight be moving out here.”

Hafez (6-1-1) is set to make the first defense of his 170-pound belt when he meets Evn Cutts at CFFC 94 on April 1. The Pennsylvania native captured the vacant CFFC welterweight title after submitting previously undefeated Christien Savoie at CFFC 89 in August.

Cutts (11-4) will be competing for the first time since Dec. 2019 and has won 5 of his last six fights, including a decision victory over UFC welterweight Ramiz Brahimaj. The 30-year-old will be making his CFFC debut.

With a potential victory, Hafez knows a UFC call up could be next, so that’s why the Factory X product knows the importance of an impressive performance.

“I don’t like to say exact times of fights, like I’m not gonna be ‘Mystic Mac’ with it,” Hafez explained. “I’m always gonna go for finish. So whether he gives me something that I see on the feet that I like, or whether he gets to the ground, and gives me an opening there I know he’s a good grappler. I know that he’s not a pushover on the ground. I do feel like stylistically still as a grappler even I feel I’ve matched up well against his grappling. It’s not just black belts or black belts, there’s different levels to it. Honestly excited to either knock them out or submit him you know, he’s gonna try and do the same thing to me. We’re both trying to hurt each other. But I’m going to finish them I’m getting my hand raised, I’m going to be “and still” welterweight champion.”
