The Scrap’s 2020 Regional Promotion of the Year: LFA

There were promotions that did not hold events amid the pandemic. Some  cancelled their year altogether when the pandemic broke. Others didn’t have the resources or the funds to put on events safely.

But when the UFC put together a blueprint, other promotions were able to follow their guidelines. The LFA was able to resume events in July, and were one of the few regional promotions to return with multiple titles up for grabs.

LFA was able to put on consistent fights, having at least one event every month once the promotion returned. What may be even more impressive is the quality of the fights. They actually took home many of The Scrap’s inaugural Regional MMA Awards.

LFA 93 featured The Scrap’s Regional Fighter to Watch, Aaron Jeffery. He is a UFC level fighter, and fought in the LFA once this year, winning by KO/TKO in round 2 of the main event. The Scrap’s Regional Fighter of the Year, Nick Maximov, won his LFA debut at LFA 91. Maximov later went on to the Contender Series and earned himself a spot on The Ultimate Fighter. LFA 95 featured The Scrap’s Regional KO of the Year, as Alex Pereira reintroduced himself to MMA. Before that, the kickboxer had been out of MMA since 2016.

At LFA 85, The Scrap’s Regional Submission of the Year was earned by Vanessa Demopoulos for her first Scrap regional award. Her inverted triangle was one of the most impressive submissions in recent memory. Demopoulos’ performance earned her a Contender Series fight, that did not go her way unfortunately. However, she found her self in back in the main event at LFA 94. A main event where Demopoulos was on the losing end of The Scrap’s Regional Fight of the Year against Lupita Godinez.

With LFA consistently put on high quality fight cards and their champions that were called up to the big leagues, there’s no doubt that LFA is The Scrap’s first-ever Regional Promotion of Year.
