Diego Ferreira wants to climb UFC rankings and fight the best in lightweight division
Diego Ferreira (17-2) will face Drew Dober (23-9) in a lightweight battle at UFC Vegas 13 on November 7. The bout, originally scheduled for May, was postponed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Ferreira last fought in January at UFC 246 where he beat Anthony Pettis (23-10) by rear-naked choke in the second round. The 35-year-old is currently on a six-fight win streak.
When Ferreira spoke to Behind The Grind, he discussed what it’s like to be the No. 8 ranked UFC lightweight. “No. 8 is just a number. My point is always going to be to look to fight the best. I want to be an example and role model for kids in my gym. I just want to give as best as I can for my community and my students,” said the Fortis MMA fighter.
When he’s not fighting or thinking about fighting, Ferreira explained that he enjoys watching movies. “I try to relax with my family. I like to be surrounded by people with good energy. I enjoy action movies because they take you out of reality.”
Ferreira said he intends to keep climbing the UFC lightweight rankings. “My goal is to be the best, climb the rankings, and get to the top fighters. I don’t want to be calling anyone out, I just want to fight the best. To be the best you have to beat the best.”
Looking forward to his upcoming fight, Ferreira predicts it will be an exciting one. “Dober is bringing knock out power. He is a talented guy. He’s a young guy but has been in the UFC for a long time. He brings a lot to the table. It’s going to be exciting because I’m a grappler and he’s a stand-up fighter. It’s going to be a scrap fight and you have to be prepared for anything.”
