VIDEO: Jesse Ronson feels ‘more comfortable’ and ‘mature’ ahead of UFC return

Read Time:2 Minute, 4 Second

When Jesse “The Body Snatcher” Ronson (21-10) received a call from the UFC to replace the injured Danny “Hot Chocolate” Roberts for the July 25 Fight Night, he told Behind The Grind that he began preparing for the fight by sleeping.

“I got the call from the UFC on a Wednesday and I literally took Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday off and I’m back at it today,” said Ronson. “Just resting and recovering and changing my diet I’ve dropped 6.5 pounds and I feel amazing. Everything recovers you’re not stressed anymore, your body’s not stressed”.

The 34-year-old lightweight from London, Ontario will face Nicolas “Lokomotivo” Dalby (18-3-1) on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi. Ronson last fought in the UFC six years ago. He first signed with the promotion in 2013, to replace an injured Mark Bocek and took on Michel Prazeres at UFC 165 in Toronto. Ronson lost the fight via split decision. He then fought Francisco Trinaldo on January 2, 2014 at UFC Fight Night: Machida vs. Mousasi in Brazil, but lost again via split decision. Ronson was handed his third split decision loss against Kevin Lee on July 6, 2014 on The Ultimate Fighter 19 Finale and was released by the promotion.

Looking back at his previous experience in the UFC, Ronson said he knows now what he needs to do to be successful. “Being an East London kid not having much growing up and realizing your dream; being that guy to finally do it. I couldn’t grasp it. I made it there and that was it. What I should have been thinking was, like now that I’m here this is what I need to do. It took me a long time after that to realize there’s more to it than just making it there. Now that I’m back I just feel so much more comfortable and I’m more mature and I’ll be able to handle it a lot better”.

Dalby made his UFC debut in September, 2019 at UFC on ESPN+18 in Copenhagen. The 35-year-old beat Alex Oliveira by unanimous decision. Previous to that he’s won three straight in the Cage Warriors promotion.

Ronson said he is looking forward to his experience on Yas Island. “It’s going to be fun and when “The Body Snatcher” has fun he starts carving and piecing out victims”.
